But they do have resources. Their faith in God. Their online acquaintances. Marla has been a blogger since 2005 and has a faithful following. Gabe is a tech savvy guy who loves photography and has produced a podcast called God's Mac which also had quite a lot of subscribers.
This book started out to be about zoos! But it's ended up being about how online friends are real people.
Marla makes her dream come true! Yet the way she goes about making it happen will inspire you regarding the internet. The internet connections we make are not just virtual friends. They are often generous caring people.
This book is so much fun to read. Adventurous and inspiring at once.
Yes- Marla really does take her family to stay with people they've never met IRL to make her dream happen.
I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I have.
Hey I would have bought the book even if I wasn't one of the lucky ones who met the Taviano family by having them stay in our home the night before they visited our zoo.
Yet four years later "Once Upon the Internet" is published as an e-book. And to our surprise Marla
wrote a chapter about US!! You'll have to buy the book to see why she would write our story.
It's only $2.99!
A quick read. Marla is so funny. I find it inspiring because: Yes- she really Did do this! And Yes- there really are good people on the internet.
Money has been really tight lately so I was uber-excited when Marla mentioned that her book was on itunes for only $.99. I read through the book in two days, but could have easily finished it in one if I hadn't stopped to sleep!
Marla's faith in The Lord is amazing! She makes me re-think my whole "everyone is out to get you" attitude that I have about people and helps me see that there truly are good people out there in the world. Does Marla go about achieving her dreams in an unconventional way? Absolutely!!! But it works for her and her family. And it serves as a living testimony that all things can happen if you put all of your faith in God and follow His will.
Thanks Marla, Gabe, Livi, Ava and Nina! Your family is a true inspiration to me!
