Small Magic, Devon Monk, 5 stars...twisty, turny, interesting story, enjoyed this one.
Romeo and Juliet, the afterlife, and The Toad Prince were the two I felt weren't really stories but read more as first chapters or prologues.
The standouts, for me, were Princess Charming by Yasmine Galenorn, an very fresh, snarky, winning take on both Cinderella and Beauty and the beast.
Mad about You by Jennifer Blackstream, a telling of Alice in Wonderland that had strong fantastical story telling and a great story line.
The Huntsman's snow by Mandy M. Roth, Snow white, obviously, but another fun take on the story.
RumpleImpskin by Debra Dunbar. The interaction between the characters and the story told by a demonic imp made this one a really fun fast read.
A small Magic by Devon Monk- The princess and the pea ...again a unique fresh perspective with a strong message of self acceptance.'
I don't know where to start. This book of short stories based on faerie tales was just awesome! I loved the spin that was put on each story. I was reading the book in snatches of free time, but it was so hard to stop reading and come into the real world. Many authors, many moods. Lots of tears and fears. Darkness and lightness of faerie tale worlds. They all spun around me. I delighted in the way that each author put their own unique touch to every story in the book. I would be hard pressed to number them in the order in which I liked them as each story was very thought out and written up. But if you make me choose I think I'd have to pick Alexia Purdy's Glass Sky. I so did not want that one to end. It took me into her magical world of which I did not want to leave.
I was given the book to read for a review. I am so glad it was offered to me. I have to say, I loved it so much, that I purchased my own copy because I want it in my library to read it over again and wallow in the land of Faerie tales when the real world becomes 'too real'
Thank you to all of the wonderful authors that contributed to this awesome collection. My hat is off to you and your fabulous writing skills!
