Hippolyta Royle is considered to be quite a novelty due to the fact that she is the richest heiress in the country and that was she was born in India. In Duke of Sin, she is kidnapped by the Duke of Montgomery and aided in her escape by the heroine of that book. This story takes place as Hippolyta is trying to make her way back to London. She comes across a carriage and begs for assistance. Matthew Mortimer has recently returned to England from India and, while he wants to help the dirty young woman, he has a difficult time believing that she is a wealthy heiress.
I loved Hippolyta! She was a fascinating character in other Maiden Lane books and she didn't disappoint in this book. I admired her resilience and her intellect especially. Matthew was not as developed as I would have liked him to be, but he was still easy to root for. I especially enjoyed the scenes where he talked about his passion for maps and India. As a couple, Matthew and Hippolyta were just adorable. They didn't want to be attracted to one another, but couldn't help it.
If you want a example of Elizabeth Hoyt's writing, Once Upon a Moonlit Night would be a good place to start. It has her traditionally unorthodox characters along with a fun plot and even an adorable animal. Tommy Teapot the mongoose stole every scene he was in! As always, I can't wait for more from this author and this series.
