Overall I liked the authors writing style. I did find that the story would shift abruptly from one character's perspective to anothers and sometimes it was difficult to keep up with whose line of thinking was going on in the story. Also near the end of the book I noticed there seemed to be more grammatical errors and the heroine is mistakenly referred to as Jenna several times which was throwing me off. While the book would definitely benefit from better editing it was still an enjoyable, relaxing evening read.
Fix the major grammatical errors and it could definitely rank at least 4 stars with me!
All in all, this was a crisp read and I enjoyed it very much.
I was also not very fond of the epilogue. It abruptly ended story forcing it into a happy ending. Whereas the whole book builds up the love the two main characters find for each other, the last two pages contain their first and only kiss of the book, their open declaration of love, their wedding, their parents' wedding, and a happy life post-rehab for the bad guy (aka the ex-husband). I think the ending is probably the thing that I am most critical about as it seems so rushed compared to the rest of the book.
And for a romance book, the author has no imagination. The only kiss between the h/h is at the very end, and even that is chaste. Then an epilogue that wraps up 2 weddings, a custody battle, and a rehabilitated, drunk absent father in the space of three pages. I expect more depth and development from the books I read. Don`t bother with this one.
I did find it to be a bit pedantic though. The conversations between characters took far too long and kept reiterating the same things over and over.
The characters tended to be a bit one dimensional and the plot was pretty melodramatic at times. The 'good' characters were almost sickenly virtuous and the 'bad' ones weren't sussed out at all...they were just cardboard meanies.
All in all though, a nice effort and an okay afternoon read.
Reid, who is like a son to Holly since his parents died when he was a baby. She is helped
by her ex-father-in-law after their divorce. Certain events bring her to the presence of
the new undersheriff, Matt Saunders, and his family. As she is trying to stand on her own,
Matt and his family along with Edward are determined to help her no matter what her protests
are. Plus, her ex Paul is becoming threatening. What will happen? A enjoyable must read!
