Troy Taylor is a supernatural historian, murder buff and the author of almost 90 books on ghosts, hauntings, history, crime and the unexplained in America. He is also the founder of the American Hauntings Ghost Tour Company.

Taylor shares a birthday with one of his favorite authors, F. Scott Fitzgerald, but instead of living in New York and Paris like Fitzgerald, Taylor grew up in Illinois. Raised on the prairies of the state, he developed an interest in "things that go bump in the night" at an early age and as a young man, developing ghost tours and writing about haunts in Chicago and Central Illinois.

He began his first book in 1989, which delved into the history and hauntings of Decatur, Illinois, and in 1994, it spawned the Haunted Decatur Tour -- and eventually led to the founding of his American Hauntings Tours, with current tours in Alton, Chicago, Decatur, Lebanon and ghost excursions that travel all over the country in search of haunted places.

In 1997, Taylor launched the Haunted America Conference, regarded as "America's Original Ghost Conference" in Decatur, Illinois. After a number of years in Alton, Illinois, the conference has returned to its original site at the Lincoln Theater in Decatur. The Haunted America Conference remains the most imitated conference in the country and in 2013, will hold the 17th annual events in Illinois.

In addition to the tour companies and Haunted America Conference, Taylor is also the founder of Whitechapel Press, a publishing company for books about the supernatural that he started in 1993, and Apartment #42 Productions.

Along with writing about the unusual and hosting tours, Taylor is also a public speaker on the subject of ghosts and hauntings. has appeared in scores of newspaper and magazine articles about the subject and in hundreds of radio and television broadcasts about the supernatural. Troy has appeared in documentary productions for TLC, The History Channel, A & E, Discovery Channel, PBS, CMT and in various network programs and syndicated news shows. These programs have included America's Ghost Hunters, Ghost Waters, Night Visitors, Beyond Human Senses, Scariest Places on Earth, Children of the Grave, and others. He has also appeared in one feature film about the paranormal. Troy currently resides in Illinois.

I was not sure what to expect when getting into this one. I had heard Troy mention it on the American Hauntings podcast and was instantly intrigued. I could not however tell where he stood on the case until getting into the book itself.

I think it was a very well researched dive into the murders. After hearing Troy's conclusions, which I will not spoil for future readers, I am convinced that there is no other possibility for what could have occurred that day. At least not one that would make any sense. All of the pieces just fit so precisely and explain all of the holes that exist in the story from the trial.

Definitely a must read if you are interested in the truth behind one of the most famous pieces of true crime in American history.

I had never before read anything about Lizzie Borden nor the events on that dreadful August morning. Mostly, my opinion was “she probably could be guilty”. However, this book was very well written and presents facts, testimony and evidence of the crime to exonerate Lizzie (in my opinion) AND presents a possible alternative solution that I had never been aware of.

This is a must read. I shared some of it with my teenage son to educate and to have a good conversation. He had no idea who Lizzie Borden was. This would be a good book to get basic history and information. The author cites other sources that are both biased and not biased. Plus, it’s under 300 pages.

I've read many books about Lizzie Borden; the alleged murders she committed, her arrest, and the court trial that followed. The more I read, it seemed that something was missing and didn't make sense, where her supposed commission of crime was concerned. Troy Taylor brings out facts little known, of the investigation, the trial, and the people involved on all sides. Bits of information that lead to a different conclusion, as to who murdered Andrew and Abby Borden. Mr. Taylor also provides the reader with photographs, and information on the aftermath of the trial. Definitely a hard to put down book, that is both interesting and informative. Well worth the read.

This was a very interesting read and I enjoyed it very much. It's not too long. It does have a lot of quotations from the trial records, but I prefer to read the actual words of people when possible instead of a writer's re-phrasing. The quotations are good and well selected by the author. My only criticism is that the book should offer a better analysis with more facts that shed light on the author's particular theory of who was the guilty party. It's an intriguing and perhaps true theory, but one more chapter with more supporting facts would have been appreciated.

I believe she never did it, its impossible but maybe involved?, No one will ever know. But once the story is read and followed, the legend that is Lizzie A. Borden will make alot more sense and for me, the books, TV, and films about her are all totally unjustified and i will not watch or read any of them as my tribute to a great and upstanding lady.
