"It was really fun to see the twists that Blackstream put on the Snow White fairy tale. Just like with book #1, lots of the original elements were still there, but with a new twist....One Bite, like Before Midnight, is another sexy and charming fairy tale retelling! I am looking forward to seeing what Blackstream has in store for us in the next installment of the series!" -Brooke Blogs

"Don't tone it down on my account," Prince Adonis insisted, his trademark cigarette smoke spilling from his lips. "Go ahead and fight it out." He smirked. "I like to watch."
"If the demon is going to make crude jokes all evening, I'm leaving now," Prince Patricio mattered, ruffling the feathers on his wings.
"Well then, bye bye, birdie," the incubus said sweetly. - Adonis and Patricio.
"Why don't you turn that charm on a young lady from a nice noble family?" his mother demanded, pulling her hand back. "You're not getting any younger, you know."
"I'm not getting any older either."
The queen rolled her eyes. -Kirill and his mother.
"Irina," he whispered, taking another step. "You have walked so willingly into a vampire's den. And I am so very hungry…" - Kirill to Irina.
"You slashed him across the face with a dagger," Pasha observed, his little face creased with worry. "No one does that to a vampire. Or a prince. Especially not a vampire prince."
"Well, when a vampire prince tries to take liberties, it's important to set boundaries-very firm boundaries." -Pasha and Irina.
"Prince Kirill," he nodded. "King Risi was surprised to hear of your association with Irina. Who knew that beneath all that black velvet you had such exquisite taste?"
Kirill's smile grew brittle. "Even I can recognize a treasure when I see one," he said smoothly. -Skoll and Kirill.
"Arrogance costs lives, it doesn't save them." -Kirill.
"Pride has no place in the heart of a king." -The gargoyle.
"I've nearly lost you three times now-nearly lost you before I even realized how much I wanted to keep you-and that is inconceivable. I would be a fool not to see what the gods are trying to tell me."
"The gods?" Irina repeated, staring at him like he'd grown a second head.
"Please don't look at me like I'm going insane, I truly do not need the reminder," Kirill mumbled. He signed and lowered his forehead to hers. "Irina, you must marry me. You must bond with me, let me take away that part of you that can be hurt so easily. Let me protect you as much as I can, do everything I can to make sure I am never again standing without your warm presence beside me."
"I'm only half human, Kirill," Irina whispered. "You cannot make me a vampire."
"No, but your human blood will allow me to bond with you. You will share my strength and anyone who tries to hurt you will learn, just before they die, that you are mine, forever." -Kirill and Irina.
This is the second in Jennifer Blackstream's Black Prince series, which takes traditional fairy tales and turns them on their sides. I enjoyed the first "Cinderella" story of a lycanthrope prince seeking his perfect mate. I enjoyed this second story even more.
Prince Kirill is wily and scheming and even a little smarmy. His ambitions have led him to force favors rather than seek friendly alliances. However, at his non-beating heart, he seeks to be a good king to keep his realm strong. And he thinks he can do it better than his ruthless father. One night Kirill comes upon a lovely girl in the snow and takes her to the dwarfs. For his part, he is just being a Good Samaritan. However, Irina discovers it is the prince who assisted her, and that gets her wondering about the man and whether he will be good a good king or tax his subjects into poverty. Her activist personality won't go into neutral, even though the dwarfs warn her that Prince Kirill might just suck her dry if she is rude to him. The two meet. Irina insults Kirill. He thinks she is a spicy little morsel with an intriguing mind and no wish for longevity.
As much as Kirill might want a little neck nip, he exercises supreme control over his actions. In fact, his entire life is about control. And obtaining even more control.
"A vampire without control over his bloodlust was an animal, not a man, and certainly not a king."
Unfortunately, Irina will not be controlled. She confounds him even as his attraction for her grows. In turn, she practically melts at his silky voice. He speaks and she gets turned on. She can't believe she covets such a manipulator.
"His voice has no business outside the bedroom, she thought miserably. It shouldn't be possible to be attracted to someone threatening to end your life."
These personality foibles, Kirill's need for supremacy and Irina's determination to live life on her terms, are revealed in insightful layers by author Jennifer Blackstream. They humanize these two fairy tale celebrities and make the story that much more poignant. Amid magical mayhem the two fall in love, but the villains looking to end them are many. The plot and action in this story are utterly unpredictable while the hero and heroine are inspiring but flawed, and that makes a familiar fairy tale become fantastic fiction.

I found this story very easy to read and get caught up in; the writing style was intelligent, the pace and plot development was well balanced, I enjoyed the twists and turns to the various mysteries woven throughout this (un) traditional paranormal romance tale.
I added the narration too and was impressed with Matt Addis' performance; the pace of his narration was just right and I enjoyed his vocal variances for the dialogue.
There is a background story arc that binds all of the Blood Prince books but each one can be read as a standalone romance.
I have added the whole series to my Amazon wish list and book 2 Golden Stair and novella 2.5 what big teeth you have are already waiting (im) patiently on my Kindle.
