There were times in the book when I was upset by some poor choices the author made. Then I thought about my own life. We don't WANT to live in sin, but sometimes we do. Sometimes we make bad choices and continue to make the same bad choice even though we know it is wrong. I appreciate the author's honesty. I doubt if I would be so open about my indiscretions.
This isn't a great literary work or anything that will change your life, but it does make you think about faith and obedience. The author exhibited huge faith (I wish she had talk more about her prayers and thoughts during her son's hospitalization). She also shows honesty about her lack of obedience to God (I wish she admitted more guilt here as it can be hard for less mature Christians to understand that the things she did were wrong).
It helped that I grew up in Parkersburg, Iowa. Shopped several times at the grocery store in Cedar Falls where Kurt worked, recognized several of the towns mentioned in Iowa.etc.
Brenda really persevered when times got tough and I really admire her for her courage and strength. Too many people give up when things don't go their way and seem to be spiraling downward but she didn't. It also had to be extremely difficult for her when she lost her parents in the middle of all she was already going through, not to mention their love and devotion to her and her children.
My congratulations to her for a great job and for writing this book.
This family truly knows what "true love" is and they continue to give it to others unselfishly.
