Good, but could have been shorter

The concept of interdependence is meaningful and one that few really sit back and ponder. The chapter on livelihood was strong. In the end, the information here could have been expressed in an article or blog post. Perhaps I’ve read too many perspectives on Buddhism. I picked this up to inspire my practice, but maybe my boredom is more a function of needing more practice and is not a true reflection on the value of this book. Who knows?

Ethan Nichtern is a thoughtful, well studied voice in urban mindfulness. But he's also snappy, hip, and totally relevant. All his stuff is here and now, and about being with all the here and now that is here, and that's a lot. Plus, he speaks his mind on all issues. He's a very helpful person that feels accessible as a virtual friend in soulmaking in these soul-fraying times. Another book of his that I have cuts even to the quicker if you are open to a Shambhala/Buddhist frame of mind. No joke, but with a sense of humor. :)

Fresh and original commentary on modern Buddhism and interdependence. Not the same old same old. And yet, no newage b.s. No radical straying from core dharma. Just applying the message to things that are new to our world. Best new Dharma I've read in 10 years.
