Editorial Reviews

Waveform Record's first release, the various artist compilation 'One A.D.' (Wav 84101-2).

Short of swimming with dolphins, this album is the ultimate chill-out experience. One heavenly dub-influenced slow groove after another, sensual techno-ambience which if you're tired of major label museum pieces may go some way towards restoring your faith in the music business. Sonic texturalists, the next incarnation of jazz, or a new form of dance music you don't have to dance to? You be the judge. Ambient - surrounding, encircling, encompassing on all sides. Dub - to replicate or re-invent, turning rational order into an ocean of sensation.

Although this music is considered "ambient dub" it hardly has any traces of reggae in it which is often associated with the term "dub". In fact, I found many of the atmospheres and rhythms on this album to be quite remincent of Enigma, except more spacey and abstract and less chant/world oriented. My favorite tracks are here are definately 3,4,& 9, speaking of which if you like G.O.L.'s song "Soma Holiday" I highley reccomend getting their album "Sensations of Tone" - a pricey as it is only available as an English import, but believe me it's well worth it!

This is one of the best ambient compilations I've ever heard, which is surprising since most of the artists are relatively unknown. The consistency of this album is remarkable, with only one mediocre track on the entire album. Stand out tracks include G.O.L.'s "Soma Holiday" and Banco de Gaia's "Desert Wind (Interstate 101 Mix)", the best mix of that song. This is not spacy, background music like The KLF or Biosphere, but more trance-like, downbeat techno. Highly recommended.

I purchased this on cassette when it first came out - it was one of the first ambient/techno releases I had owned. I loved it, every single track is magical, transporting me to another world. Years later I lost the cassette (and what would I have played it on?) so just recently I found it in CD form on Amazon. I had to have it. Wow, it's just as great as I remember! There's a lot of variety here, no two tracks sound alike. There's some world/tribal stuff going on, some ethereal/otherworldly stuff, and some great beats in between. This is very accessible music, easy to listen to, and perfectly acceptable for playing in public. I believe the category of music this falls into would be "ambient", but unlike a lot of ambient works, the songs here are very easy to listen to.

One track in particular that stands out that always brings a smile to my face is one that starts with some lady saying "Feel how the greater being comes... Rejoice... and when rejoicing dies, melt in the music of the drums..." And then later she comes back and says something like "... filled with sonorous colors, where the dripping patchouli was more than a scent, it was the sun..."

Haha, I love those priceless trippy lines they put in a lot of techno, so classic.

Buy this CD, then go get Two AD, Three AD, and Four AD. If you like instrumental/electronic music and you're not an artsy snob looking for a "challenge", you'll love it!

This is a great CD of hypnotic trance music similar to, but way better than, the likes of Enigma. If you're one who has often wished for an entire CD of nothing but those cool hypnotic instrumentals you sometimes find on albums, this CD is definitely for you. I have listened to it six times in the past two days, and I'm listening to it now.

I have owned this CD for well over 10 years and it is still one of my most played CD's, I never tire of it. Great for yoga, meditation, tai chi or just relaxing and uplifting. Spacey, ethereal, some of the best, most luscious electronica out there. If you like down to mid tempo ambient beats you can't go wrong with One AD. The other A.D. compilations are excellent as well but this stands out as the best. Check it out!
