One Dark Hallow's Eve: A Lost Tale from The Book of Kindly Deaths
by Eldritch Black

Poor Owen! Laughed at and bullied! One day as the bullies were going at Owen, a creepy man yells at them! But he isn't just a man at all! They try bullying the man but that's when the Pumpkin men arise! Owen has to save the town, who doesn't believe him. Then once the town is in certain peril, get help from the neighborhood town across the waterway that is filled with skeletons! I am sure glad I don't live there!

This is so cleverly written with enough suspense and unique characters to keep the entertainment factor on high. Made for middle grade kids but a great story should be enjoyable for all ages in my mind. This is a fun, yet slightly suspenseful, Halloween story! Certainly entertaining and packed with great characters!

Eldritch Black writes a spooky story. Like a Stephen King for preteens. If I had read this when I was that age I wouldn't have slept for a week!

A lovely story by itself, One Dark Hallow's Eve adds another excellent chapter to the world of the Book of Kindly Deaths. We get to learn a bit more about the connection between the Grimwytch and our world, see a young man's mettle tested, and discover the feeding habits of vengeful pumpkins. It's a worthy romp with good shivers.

Audible UK:An excellent tale of a boy who cried 'monsters' and no one believes him.Hanibal Hills was the perfect narrator.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'

I received this book for free at my request but the opinion is of my own. Owen is always teased for crying about monsters until one day it is proven he was not calling falsehood. One Halloween changes the teasing of Owen and a town’s thoughts completely.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great one sitting read
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 26, 2023
The writing was detailed and drew me in. A lot was packed into 32 pages. It was very well balanced and exciting throughout. There was even a change in points of view. It took me a moment to realise that that is what happened, but I soon got into it. The rest of the story was from the other character's point of view, it didn't chop and change so I managed to keep up with what was going on.

The characters were great. Whilst we were only briefly introduced, I felt like we got to know the basics of the characters, which for the purpose of this story was good enough. The characters were good enough that I wouldn't mind reading more about them in the future.

Lastly the settings. I loved the village setting with the lonely property just outside and the lake. It added to the spookiness of the story.

Overall a great one sitting Halloween story which was cleverly done. I wouldn't mind reading more from this author.
