Macen "Hammer" Hammerman runs a highly, sophisticated BDSM club; finds Raine outside the club when she was young and helps raise her for nearly 6 years. They have a brotherly/sister relationship, but over time, they have developed feelings for one another that neither one will act upon. Raine yearns for more between the two but when she finally takes the courage and acts upon her feelings she is devastated on how Macen responds. Liam, Macen's best friend who has shared his past with him on everything, comes to Raine's rescue and propositions her in a Dom/Sub relationship. Liam has a good heart and wants the best for the two. He sees that they truly love each other but in doing so he falls in love with Raine as well. Liam and Macen's friendship are tested in the most trying ways.
Raine will keep you on your toes with her witt, feistiness & humor, Liam will warm your heart and you will want to punch Macen in the face!
Amazing story that does end in a cliff hanger that you will want to get the 2nd book in a heart beat.
There's this total love triangle going on because Raine's been in love with Macen Hammerman for years and, while he lusts after her, he feels it's his duty to reject her. Instead he flaunts his other lovers in front of her, takes advantage of her constant submissive gestures to him, and then, once she starts really trying to show her how much she loves him, allows and ENCOURAGES a sadist to abuse and punish her far past the point where it would be enjoyable to her and EVEN past the point that Macen originally told the sadist he could go! WTF?!
That's when Liam steps in. Liam appreciates Raine, loves her, cares for her, is willing to teach her. Is he perfect? No. Although he's much more understanding about her feelings for Hammerman than most men would be. But he knows that he wants her for his own and is more than willing to work to make her his - unlike Hammerman who is just constantly using her and then throwing her away (and yes, eventually he does this sexually as well as emotionally).
Hammerman isn't a Dom, he's an abusive jerk who is completely toxic for Raine. In fact, he pretty much embodies the warning signs for emotional abusive.
If Liam wins out at the end of this trilogy then it will be an amazing series as Raine works to find her real self, appreciate how amazing she is, and fall in love with Liam who is actually worth her time. Especially if Hammerman realizes how and why he lost Raine's love and then eventually goes on to find a sub to redeem himself with since he could never deserve Raine after the way that he's treated her.
But seriously, if she forgives him after all the awfulness he's put her through then this series will just be a poster card for "it's okay to emotionally, physically and sexually abuse someone as long as you're REALLY sorry for it then they should forgive you and ditch the guy that dragged them out of the abyss you put them into." So here's the thing... this series could go two different ways and one way would be amazing, the other way will make me want to tear my hair out and never read anything by any of the authors again.
Obviously, however, it evokes extremely strong reactions, which - to me- means it's very well written. Also the sex scenes are incredibly hot. But I do agree with another reviewer that I expected it to be longer going by Amazon's page count and I was a little annoyed when a big chunk of that turned out to be nothing more than promos for the authors' other books.
Amazing book, that introduced me to three new authors!

I enjoyed the main female character, Raine. She is feisty and knows what she wants in her life.Read more
