Product Description
The most important thing you can do to prevent boredom in your cat is to make sure their environment is stimulating. This means an environment with things to do – windows to look out of, things to watch, places to climb and safe toys to play with. Climbing posts, scratching posts, cat grass, windows perches, window beds, and a view of birds or squirrels to watch are all great ways to enrich your cats life and prevent boredom. In nature cats would use their energy to hunt. That hunting requires short bursts of energy then they'd spend the rest of the time sleeping and grooming so they'll be ready for the next hunt (grooming is important so prey won't smell them coming). Without the need to hunt prey they need other outlets for that pent up energy. It’s good for cats to get some sort of workout and changing it up to keep them interested is important. There are many ways to keep your cat lively, giving them access to energetic companions, making a play session part of their day, and/or offering them tempting exercise equipment for use when you’re not at home…that’s why we came up with “One Fast Cat” cat wheel. Our cat wheel design is more advanced than any before it: Smart industrial design allows it to ship or retail in a very small box (box size) This design also allows for it to be assembled extremely quickly for home use Sturdy and lightweight for ease of moving it around It is made of Recycled plastics Run surface is made from a closed cell EVA foam to prevent claws from catching and allowing cats to run naturally using their claws for safe footing Can be cleaned by taking it outside and spraying it with a hose or wiped down with a wet towel Open design so cats can enter from either side NEW - Roller Blade Wheel Covers included free of charge! 48" diameter wheel 34" x 12" base

I was very pleased that the item (purchased Sat. 10/12) arrived in three days rather than the original ETA of a week and more. The box it arrived in was beaten up, which scared me, but the contents were very well packed and undamaged.
Prior to buying this, I watched several videos of the unboxing and assembly, so I didn't pay much attention to the instructions that came with the wheel. However, the video I thought was most current was for an earlier version and a lot of improvements have been made to the latest wheel: happily, I got the latest one (gen 5). Unhappily, the instructions were different than the video, and I didn't realize it until I had put the rings and sides together wrong four times.
Once the basic wheel was built, I realized that this version included nicely thought out lock button tabs. So I had to tear it all down once more to insert the button locks. What an improvement over what was shown in the video! The button tab locks really make the structure very strong. It's also makes it easier to snap the pieces in place. (If you read the instructions FIRST).
I wasn't sure my five pound siamese kitten could move the wheel, but he does fine. The wheel moves easily enough and the gen 5 wheels don't make much noise.
I have three indoor cats and they can get pretty crazy running around the house. They love to play 'red'dot' (laser pointer), and they chase it with such ferocity I'm afraid they'll hurt themselves! So my plan is to use the laser and catnip to get them to enjoy running on the wheel. If they don't like it, it's kinda kool art; like the Stargate! Hope it doesn't disappear them!
Day 1, my cats have been exploring the wheel, but are a little nervous when it starts moving. I'm sure they will take to it once they trust it. They are already intrigued by it.
Day 2, WOW! two of my three cats love this thing. I put each of them on the wheel and gently rocked them back and forth while petting them. Then I used a laser pointer to get them going. Once they took that bait, they didn't need the laser to use the wheel. They get on it by themselves - good workouts.
TIp: The sides of the gen 5 wheels may touch the rail, making noise and creating friction. I solved that problem by applying a very light coat of oil to the rail. It's considerably quieter. Be sure that whatever oil you use is non-toxic to cats!
I'm an engineer - I'm saying this to hopefully paint a picture of a human being capable of putting things together. The fact that assembly of this cat wheel is quite difficult is not my fault. Even with the follow-along video, the assembly is very tedious.
As soon as we opened it, we've noticed that the Product box that was inside the shipping box, was very beat up - punctures, one corner was completely open, and the smaller box inside that holds the Track pieces was even more beat up.
We opened the boxes, and noticed small plastic chips inside, that were already broken off from the assembly pieces. They were small chips, so we thought it wouldn't affect the assembly. The plastic pieces are ashy black, and the metallic pole was all scratched up.
We started putting the wheel together, while carefully watching the Assembly video on their website.
The assembly is quite crude, it requires constant rubber mallet banging on the plastic to ensure all pieces are put together. And I know what you may think - that's normal, but the amount of snapping, unsnapping, banging and adjusting you have to with each piece is too much. It should not be this difficult. There is also an extremely high risk you may damage some pieces in the process.
All of this put together just paints a very clear picture of poor engineering that went into this product.
This product is literally some curved plastic pieces you have to bang and snap together, and you're supposed to get a sturdy, safe moving device for your cats out of it. I don't think so.
No wonder I've read reviews here on Amazon that say their cat's paw got jammed, having a hands-on experience with the quality of this cat wheel, I can definitely believe that.
Overall, huge disappointment.
TL;DR (In Short) The assembly is too tedious, this product is engineered poorly, and I believe I've received a used unit. NOT worth $250. Fair price for this cat wheel would be $100.
It feels sturdy once fully assembled. With the base on carpet the wheel itself does wobble a bit while spinning quickly, but not enough to be concerning.
There are four smaller wheels in the base that act as a track to keep the wheel in place. That does mean though they can sometimes be heard rubbing against the side of the wheel while it’s turning. I don’t know if that’s intentional, but it’s not loud enough to be bothersome.
It’s only day three with this exercise wheel and our short-haired tortie is already comfortable on it. On the first day we tried toys, but that didn’t work. On the second day we tried treats and that worked spectacularly. It took her a few tries to figure out she needs all four feet on the wheel, but then she was trotting along without issue. Today, day three, she’ll hop on and use the wheel without treats, but only if I lead her to it and sit on the floor next to it while she uses it.
Hopefully she’ll start using it on her own, but it’s already worth it if I only need to be present for her to use it.
