I loved hanging out with Reggie and company not only in the context of solving criminal cases, but in their more private emotional matters, past and present. In fact, I enjoyed those stories even more, especially those that showcased Reggie’s heart-warmingly-breakingly-real relationship with Maryanne.
We’re also introduced to his daughter Elizabeth’s point-of-view, which is sarcastic and funny in a way that’s similar enough to Reggie’s where the family resemblance is clear, but still uniquely her own. She’s a great counterpoint to him, and their interactions are a lot of fun, especially when they relate the same incidents from slightly different perspectives.
You don’t have to read the preceding novel “Bully For You” first, but it will definitely enhance your enjoyment of this installment. And if you’re not quite sold on the crime genre, this is a great entry point to the characters that might just convince you to give it a shot!
