(One-Half Dozen) Black Australorp Chicken Fertile hatching eggs. Instructions are included to help with a successful hatch. The Black Australorp is the only breed of chicken we raise so there is no concern for getting a mixed from us. Our chickens are free range with an added organic diet of cracked and whole grains which include corns, black oil sunflower, safflower, millet, cracked red wheat and flax seed. Instructions are included to help with a successful hatch. My hatch rate is 95-99% hopefully yours will be as successful. Sadly, we cannot guarantee your hatch rate since we cannot control how the eggs are handled once they leave our hands. Many things can affect your hatch like improper handling, incubators, etc, so we do not offer refunds for your hatch rate. However, I do include extra eggs where possible. This breed originated in Australia developed from the Black Orpington imported from England; and the emphasis of the breeding program was on egg production without sacrificing too much in size and meat quality. Some sensational results were made in the Australian program, and one hen set a laying record of 364 eggs in 365 days. Introduced into the USA in the 1920's, they have become useful and popular and are certainly one of the best layers of light brown eggs of all the heavy breeds. Black Australorps have glossy black plumage which has a greenish-purple sheen and a larger than average bright red comb making them a handsome sight to watch they are very friendly. They are big birds, cockerels weighing 8 to 9 pounds at maturity and pullets 6 to 7. They have a pinkish white skin and plump bodies which dress out nicely once the birds have their final plumage. Pullets mature early and many will be in production between 5 and 6 months of age. They are quiet, gentle, and stand confinement well. Baby chicks are black with a good deal of white in the under parts and small white patches around the head and wings.
