As a woman of 27 Veronica has to deal with the fallout from a disastrous decision that was forced upon her as a teenager. Leon, on the other hand has to accept that he was wrong in his decisions ten years before and wrong in his assumptions about who Veronica really is - and why. Can they each put aside their deeply entrenched beliefs and feelings to save Josh, Veronica's child, fathered by Leon's brother ten years ago? Can they find their way through the mire of lies and guilt to become the parents that Josh needs? Can love bloom where once hatred and mistrust flourished? You won't be disappointed in the way Ms. Wine answers these questions.
Thanks for a great read.
Choosing Jordan's welfare over her own need to love and nurture him, was her ultimate sacrifice. And her biggest regret. With an adult perspective and the benefit of hindsight, Veronica sees she made the only decision possible; leaving Jordan with two loving parents in a secure environment was sensible and practical. However, the emotional angst and turmoil this action provokes becomes her daily reality-check and a secret she's kept from close friends; until now.
Ten years have slipped by when Jordan's adopted father, and biological uncle, Leon Karvasis surprises Veronica with a visit to her home city of Auckland, New Zealand; his being there tests her core strengths and beliefs. The Karvasis family is still one of Australia's wealthiest families; the circumstances and details surrounding Jordan's father's death and the financial scandal that almost ruined them was front-page news at the time. Now, Jordan needs life saving surgery. She is the last resort and going to his aid is a no-brainer. One she undertakes at her own expense; the true cost turns out to be of far greater value than mere dollars and cents.
This story shows the depths some people will go to, to hide their flaws and faults; to hide their real feelings and love from each other. And ultimately to `show' that love.
`One Hour to Midnight' is packed full of emotional triggers and realties. Well done, Shirley Wine. You've given us another great read! My favourite so far.
