We meet Meredith and her best friend Roxie, who are co-owners of a very successful blog, and when Roxie presents Meredith with an amazing idea, we know this is going to lead to nothing but disaster. The story? Spend one week dating each of the male fantasy's and write about it for the blog. Nothing can go wrong, right? Well... it does, and at times it is so funny and other times I was cringing with what Meredith had to go through.
The athlete, a complete disaster, the musician, even worse.. then there is the bad guy.. oh man, these three were awful and I hurt from laughing so hard as well as cringing at these guys and Meredith's experiences with them. When a snafu happens and the millionaire and step-brother are in a foreign country Meredith had reached her limits, till she found out she would get to go to her dream vacation of Scotland to date these two guys. What she didn't expect was the step-brother to be Roxie's step-brother and Meredith's most hated enemy, Kirby.
When these two see each other for the first time, after years apart, I could feel the chemistry sparking between them immediately, even through their hate speak back and forth. It was just verbal foreplay looking back. These two love to push each others button's and try to one up one another, and it becomes a joy to read about these two, but first Meredith has to date the millionaire. I thought this would go well, but again, a total disaster, and I wanted to strangle him when their time was up, so that just left Kirby, the step-brother.
As a reader, you catch on a lot sooner than Meredith does, that Kirby and her are inevitable and are going to happen. It's just getting her to realize it, that takes some time. As much as Kirby can be a total jerk in this book, he's sweet and caring, and so in love with Meredith it's not funny. I loved watching their relationship progress in this book, as well as all the LOL moments we got while reading their story.
This book has many ups and downs and was full of laughs. It was just the perfect book I needed after reading so many deep books lately. The humor had me laughing out loud, and the story was sweet and steamy as well. I wanted to hate Kirby, but ended up falling for him and the way Meredith and Kirby's story ended was beautiful. I hope one day we get to read Roxie's story and see her fall for a guy as well! If you're looking for a LOL book with a steamy romance, I suggest added The One by Kristin Vayden to your TBR list today!
I really enjoyed the story line. Two BFFs who have a history of getting into scrapes together and now as adults they work together. Roxi is the one who seems to always have the "great" ideas and Meredith seems to be the one on the receiving end. Not much has changed. This time Roxi's idea is for Meredith to date the ideals that women have and blog about it. What could possibly go wrong?
It is a fun ride. There were quite a few times while reading this that my kids would walk in the room to see what I was doing because I would bust up laughing. The banter between the main characters was great. I loved how well the story was written. It was a fun lighthearted read and I am sure that I will be re-reading this one.
(Just a quick note -- there is some language and a sex scene.)
I received and ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The Best Parts:
When you think of romance novels there are normally certain types of men that you get when you read them. Well why not have them all in one book? But what if those men that we read about and dream about, just aren’t that real? Well that’s exactly what this book let’s you know. Getting to see inside of Meredith’s head through these dates makes you feel for her pain.
I have to say I loved how fun and free this book was, and how true it made dating look, because in reality, no one likes dating. The adventures that Meredith goes on in this book though makes you want what real love is. It makes you want to find that ONE. I have to say, the millionaire made me swoon just as much as he made Meredith did, but in all truth I’ve never trusted millionaires.
Kirby though. I couldn’t help but see my husband in him. Like my husband and I used to hate each other. I had a restraining order against him in high school. So yea, the bickering, and literally fighting. That just made Kirby and Meredith’s relationship, and blooming one at that, so much more real.
The Worst Parts:
I actually didn’t find anything I didn’t like about this book. Well one thing, but it was a personal thing. Angst portions in books I’m normally good with, but I get bad anxiety, and Meredith’s anxiety in her portion of the book was sending mine off the freaking charts. I had to stop reading for a bit because I almost had a panic attack. But still, SO GOOD!
This is a must buy. It was my first Kristin Vayden book, and trust me y’all it won’t be my last! <3
This is my first book to read by Kristin and I will definitely continue to read her books.
I'll Jed the premise of the story. Plus the fact that the male lead has an accent - Scottish to be exact - had me hooked.
Definitely recommend. A fun read.
