This is a heartfelt and touching story that I enjoyed very much.
Lucas is a firefighter who feels guilty after the death of his best friend and fellow firefighter who died in a fire 18 months earlier. He starts taking risks and putting his live and the lives of other firefighters in danger. He is suspended for 60 days and now has to work as an EMT.
Sarah is a widow and single parent who moved to Oak Grove to get away from the memories of her husband. When she meets Lucas, they are attracted to each other. A week later she is in an accident and Lucas is the paramedic who helps her out of the car and stays with her at the hospital that night. A relationship develops between them. Lucas does not tell her that he is actually a firefighter because he doesn't want to scare her off. As their relationship develops into a physical one and he falls in love with her, it becomes even harder for him to tell her. She, however, also keeps something from him.
What I loved about the story is that the two of them got along so well almost from the start. Lily was also very sweet and she loved Lucas and he her.
This is a touching story that I highly recommend.
Lucas grew up in Oak Grove along with his two brotherhood and one sister. Lucas was raised in a family that was taught to help others, so it felt very natural for him to become a firefighter and paramedic.
Sarah lost her her husband two years ago in a house fire and has brought her four year old daughter to Oak Grove to start a new life.
Sarah and Lucas both have things from their past that they need to overcome. Sarah needs to overcome the guilt of wanting to start over after she looses her husband and Lucas needs to get overcome the guilt of feeling like it was his fault that his best friend and fellow firefighter died in a fire.
There is a HEA but not before there are a lot of tears
This is a wonderful story and very well written.
I really enjoyed this book.
It was not only a romance but also told how they handled their own ghosts together.
Sarah and Lucas'story was well written and I couldn't put it down.
How heart warming to see how they melded their lives together.
Sarah Robinson has moved herself and 4 year old daughter to the small town of Oak Grove to have a fresh start 3 years after her husband dies unexpectedly. Sarah is just getting to know some of the towns people when she meets Lucas in passing at a small cafe one day. She doesn't expect her next encounter with the very tall, handsome man to be when he saves her life.
Lucas can't seem to take his eyes off of the gorgeous woman at the cafe when he sees her for the first time, and going by her reaction she is struggling with the same dilemma. When an emergency call comes in to the fire station just a few days later the last person he is prepared to see in the mangled car is the pretty blond. What surprises him even more is after getting her to the hospital and finding out she has no life threatening injuries, he can't seem to leave her side.
It isn't long before the two can hardly stand to be apart. Lucas adores Sarah's daughter and the feeling is mutual. But there is a secret Lucas is keeping from Sarah and she is also keeping something from him. In the end, secrets may destroy any chance they have at happiness.
My big issue with this book: Without giving too much of this book away I'll just say that all the sons in Lucas Bennett's family are doing great, have good careers and jobs and are good men. Their little sister, who appears to be about age 20-22 based on the approximate ages of her brothers (Lucas is 28 and the oldest), is introduced about half way through the book appearing in a scene looking gaunt and somewhat fearful with a VERY overbearing, angry looking man and none of the brothers do anything to protect her or even find out what is going on. I'm sure the author is doing something to set up a future book for her character but knowing it isn't even the next in the series has me freaking out about the lack of concern the family shows for their youngest.
