Joan's life story as is all of our life stories is filled with many highs and lows. She shared both with the reader with deep feeling and affirmed for all readers that even in the midst of loss that there is always hope.
Fifty years ago Joan showed myself and my classmates that we could shine brightly even as we faced the future filled with uncertainity and yes losses. She showed us how to light candles and pierce the dark moments and not to curse the darkness.
Fifty years later Joan is still showing all who pick up this book how to light candles, piercing the moments of loss and not to curse the darkness.
Thank you Joan for taking me once again on the journey with you.
Joan Higgs has very beautifully told the story of how her life changed in one moment...how what you think could never happen can happen to anyone. Her lobbying has been appreciated by so many.
Unfortunately, not nearly enough is known about stillbirth, nor is it studied enough. We have no regulated national system for stillborns and it is heartbreaking. We need to continue to fight for more.
Every parent, grandparent or loved one of a stillborn child should take time to read and share the story of how one moment can change your life forever.
