Once you pick this book up, you’ll lose track of whether you keep turning the pages for the rocketing suspense, or for the sizzling sex. When you finish, you’ll be sated on both scores, plus you’ll have the satisfaction of having watched characters grow, develop, and make important choices, something difficult to accomplish in such a short read. Well done!
This is the second book in the City Nights Series, that was book 7 and this is book one. They are only related in that they take place in a different city over the course of a single night. That was Edinburgh, this is Boise. That was short, sweet and delicious. This is longer, darkier, deadly and sexier, but just as delicious!
Derek and his wife Cheri llike to play games, only this time, lives are at stake and secrets are uncovered.
This has murder, mystery, secrets, drug running and pimping! It has a long stnading marriage trying to keep the spark alive, and a young love, finding their time together where they can, even if it means breaking into his parents house.
Its written differently: Derek has his say, in the FIRST person. Everyone else has a say too, but in the THIRD person. Different, yes, took a little getting used to, but absolutely perfect for this book.
To pack so much in a short book (about an hour and a half for me) takes skill, and Lambert excels at that skill here. I've not read anything by Lambert before, but I will certainlylook to in the future!
**same worded review appears on Goodreads, Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk**
"One Night in Boise" by Troy Lambert is an erotic contemporary suspense novella featuring Detective Derek Marshek and his family. Both Derek and his son, Alex, are having sizzling sexual encounters with their respective partners, but one night of passion quickly embroils them in a complicated case that may alter their family dynamics forever, and not necessarily for the better.
This suspenseful tale has a nice combination of intensely spicy intimate interludes and intriguing twists to a murder case that becomes very personal to Detective Marshek. The shifting between the activities of father and son is a bit disconcerting to me as the night unfolds but I like the way details are gradually revealed about the family. I am not fond of the multiplicity of points of view that are presented and there are a few too many issues and secrets that are glossed over for my tastes, particularly between Derek and his wife, but this still was an entertaining story with heat, emotionalism and mystery packed into one exhausting night.

This book gets off to a fast start and stays on the fast track throughout the novel. There is never a dull moment and the plot is very original. It is impossible to put down once one starts this incredible novel. The characters are believable, although not all of them are to be loved. This is an adults only book, but is beautifully written and one can see the scenes as they unroll before the reader. One feels as though they are in the parking lot of the sexy hotel, or in Cheri and Derek's home. Awesome novel, once again, Troy Lambert delivers the goods!
The old adage that everything is fun and games until someone gets hurt has never been more true than in Troy Lambert's novel, One Night in Boise. Detective Derek Marshek and his wife Cheri have begun playing games to spice up their sex life and one of their favorites is that of prostitute and John. One night, that game takes them to a motel where the fun turns serious.... deadly serious. Derek falls asleep after he and Cheri have a vigorous bout of sex and he awakens to the sound of gunfire. Why does Derek find Cheri standing over a dead man, holding Derek's gun? And why does the dead man look just like Derek?
While his parents are dealing with the aftermath of the shooting, Alex Marshek is trying to find a way to be alone with his new girlfriend, Susie. In an attempt to find an actual bed in which to make love, Alex finds himself drawn back into his parents' lives after he has distanced himself from his authoritarian father. When tragedy strikes the family, Alex and Derek are forced to reevaluate their relationship.
I will say that this book is straight up erotica. The sex scenes are explicit and plentiful. As a result, this book is only appropriate for readers 18 and up. The writing is good in the book and the sex scenes are definitely hot. However, I felt that the book asked more questions than it answered; hence, my 4 out of 5 rating. I am hopeful that more questions are answered in further books, but I'm not sure if there will be further books with these characters. I hoped for more resolution, but still enjoyed the book and I will likely seek out other books by Troy Lambert.
