Let me start with saying this book is HOT. If you are after a story that pack in a lot of punch into a quick read then this is the one for you.

You get a smoking hot alpha, a headstrong heroine, scorching sex, emotional moments, a good fight or two and a couple of secondary characters that need their own story. Say hello to Gabe’s partners and you will understand that last bit.

Gabe Holt the sigh worthy hero is just delectable. He’s an ex MMA fighter who now owns a club called Sin with his friends. He is just……sigh. What Gabe does for his brother is both heart-warming and scary. He’s a man of few words but plenty of action especially when it comes to Skyler.

“He was a man who’d once made his living with his fists, who now owned a club called Sin.”

Skylar Thompson our heroine, I loved her. The good girl who doesn’t do one night stands and certainly not with a tough guy like Gabe. I loved that she was bold enough to push herself out of her neat box to go after what she wanted. Even if what she wanted was Gabe.

“You shouldn’t be allowed to wear clothes,” she sputtered. I’m serious. There needs to be a law against it.”

Together these two are both combustible and a force to be reckoned with. The chemistry is so strong with Gabe and Skylar it will melt your kindle. There’s a hot scene on Gabe’s office that had me fanning myself. Yowza.

“Please Gage. Please.” “That’s it, bad girl, I just needed to hear you beg.”

When they quickly find themselves in deeper than either planned, it’s fun to watch them fight the addiction they have become to each other and to find their way to their HEA.

I loved this story and will be eagerly waiting for more. Like I said, there are secondary characters begging for their own story and I would snatch them up in a heartbeat.

I actually like having a sense that what I'm reading could be possible in real life. I mean I know that when I read a fiction book that's what it is, fiction, but I like to be able to at least pretend that I'm reading characters with a real personality and a real mind, not some soap opera dialogue that I can't help but gag over. For instance; the H goes "... You're playing with fire" and the h goes "what if I like playing with fire? Did you ever think of that? What if I want to get burned?" What? No... Come on. Or the usual; "... Go or I won't be able to stop myself next time" (or some idiotic comment among those lines) and the usual 90's drama response "Is that a promise?" Nooooooo!!!! Come ON! Don't say that! I know that if I ever heard anyone talking like that I'd laugh so hard. So please, let's try to tone down the soap opera drama and go for a 24 (was it?) Year old girl that talks like a 24 year old girl and a normal guy that no matter his age won't say thinks like that.. You're playing with fire.. Please Kill me now.

One Night of Sin by Elle Kennedy
Book One of the After Hours series
Publisher: Brazen
Publication Date: August 4, 2014
Rating: 4 stars
Source: Copy bought from Amazon

***Warning: this is an adult book, and for the eyes of mature readers***
Summary (from Goodreads):

When it comes to sex, good girl Skyler Thompson always plays it safe, choosing stable and sedate over wild and thrilling. She doesn’t do one-night-stands, but one look at sinfully sexy Gage Holt and she’s willing to reconsider. He makes her want to be bad for once in her life, and she’s prepared to take what she wants.

Danger follows former MMA fighter Gage Holt like a shadow. Despite his successes as part owner of Sin, an exclusive nightclub in Boston, Gage can’t risk getting involved with a woman, especially one as sweet as Skyler. Still, he can’t resist a taste—and it’s so damn good he has to see her again.

As addicted as he is to her, Gage knows there’s no future for him and Skyler—not with his past lurking in the dark corners of an MMA cage. But Skyler’s tougher than she looks, and she’s ready to fight for her man.
What I Liked:

Super short review coming your way! Well, shorter than my usual review length. This book is quite short, so it is only fitting! I really, really enjoyed this book. I've not read anything by Elle Kennedy before (though I know she has a very popular New Adult series published - The Deal?), but I'm really happy with the first book I've read by her! This one was AMAZING!

Skyler and Gage meet in a nightclub, a nightclub that Gage owns in part. One steamy interaction leads to another, and the two of them can't keep their hands off each other.

A retired MMA fighter-turned-club owner doesn't think the woman he's falling for fits with his unsavory past and complicated present.

This one surprised me. Really surprised me. Too often, "erotic romance" translates into plenty of gratuitous sex and modest (if any) character development. And with a title like ONE NIGHT OF SIN, well, I figured the writing was on the wall (and the clothes spread all over the floor) with this one. What I didn't expect was a sophisticated, well conceived, beautifully executed narrative and characters that made you want to get to know everything about them.

SIN is the name of the club owned by Gage Holt and two of his buddies. He and the woman he falls for, Skylar Thompson are both given rich, believable histories and hopes and dreams that have nothing to do with a hot time between the sheets. Don't get me wrong, the sexual content is hot, but it doesn't take over the book. Gage's situation--the misadventures of his younger brother drag him back into a world he would rather leave behind--is scary, and he's no superhero. At one point he takes a real pounding at the hands of a crime boss's toadies. Skylar has her own issues. Her only living relative is a stepfather who'd give anything to have a relationship with her, but she's paralyzed by her loyalty to her real father. Skylar feels stifled by her own well-organized, white bread world. She wants to stretch a little.

Author Elle Kennedy makes great use of her Boston setting. Most writers plunk their characters down in a city, mention a few landmarks, and that's that. Boston, especially the tougher neighborhoods, really permeate this short work. I felt transported to those dark, dangerous streets.

I'm glad to see that Kennedy has written at least one other book set in the SIN universe. It's a place where I'd like to revisit.
