About the Author

Anatoly Arutunoff has raced with Bob Bondurant, Phil Hill, Richie Ginther, Dan Gurney, Ak Miller, and Carroll Shelby back when cars slid, drivers were visible, and the average privateer like Arutunoff could finish fourth in a grand prix race against the factories.

The book is well written and a real page turner when he gets into one of his stories...his car knowledge and putting it together with his experience is "one of a kind"....I know, I have had the pleasure of meeting him and also being on a few rallys with he and his wife...they really compliment each other....At a dinner or convention he is surrounded by people just wanting to meet him....he has plenty more to write about and I wish he would---I would relish it for myself and they make great gifts for the car-minded who want to know "the rest of the story" !! Dr. Robert W. Mackey in Tulsa.

A glimpse into a life well lived. From his first spoken word ("car"), nothing much has changed for this man, from seeing de Portago/Nelson flash part to their doom in the 1957 Mille Miglia, to racing a variety of machines in the original Targa Florio (alloy SWB Ferrari, Lancia Flaminia Zagato, Lotus Twin Cam Europa), the adventures just keep rolling. Swappin' cars with Piers Courage, the Day Chivalry Died (Sebring 1967), the Sarahs of the World, Chaparrals on open trailers behind pickup trucks, pick your Le Mans GT-40 for $7000 right here... can you think of anybody else who might have driven in ASR with a Lamborghini Miura and a Howmet Turbine car? It could only be Toly Arutunoff, a true original. Great fun, the cost per smile is very agreeable.

I was part of Toly's world and ran against him meeting him as he lay under his Morgan in Bermudah shorts with dark socks and street shoes in the paddock at Pueblo Motorsports Park. I heard how he made Hallet track to run counterclockwise being a lefthand drive so he could beat the righthand drive Bugeyes like I drove. But anyway I enjoyed the book as it brought many good memories of my racing in the Midwest Division of SCCA and my times at Road Atlanta. I do recall standing under an awning with Honda Bob in 1981 with Gordon Smiley watching the runoffs in the rain, which it did all week in Oct. 1981. This was the Fall before he was killed at the Brickyard not in the '70s as the book states. But even with the dates in question I'm pleased with his putting the experiences in print so us old farts can reminisce when we were fast and hot. I'd love for a bunch of us to get together with a few beverages and shoot the bull. Loeved the book. Blair Lang

I have raced against and with Toly and this sparkling little tome explains a lot of the character that Toly exhibits at the track.

Toly has never lived with the constraints that the rest of us are bound to. The organization of the book tells us many things about Toly and what is important in his life.

It is a quick read and the stories are wonderful from a time that is less correct but better lived.
