How am I doing at regulating my emotions? How do I have empathy toward others, including my youngster? How do I teach my youngster to have empathy and emotional understanding? This book answers these questions and more ... and provides a compelling case for why that is the "one rule for boys".
There is a chapter in here about compassion, sympathy, and empathy that is only about two pages but it really hit home for me. I read this chapter two or three times because it was so good.
Overall, my favorite part of this book is the author's non-judgemental tone, which I think could be a hard balance to find in a parenting book written by an expert in Psychology. This book does not come across as preachy at all - it is instead written with a tone of empathy and compassion for all of us who are just trying to do the best we can as parents.
I would recommend this book to everyone who has kids and wants to encourage thoughtful behavior and emotional maturity. The writing is easy to follow, with an incredible body of research behind it, but not dry at all. In fact, it was quite humorous at times. Be sure to read the footnotes.
I highly recommend this book!
TONS of good tips!
I had to put the book DOWN at one because I was BELLY-laughing SO HARD at one of many humorous footnotes.
I read lots of peaceful-parenting-style books and this one was my FAVORITE because it's practical, easy-to-read, and, most important, has bits of HUMOR entwined in the invaluable substance, making the reading learning entertaining.
