First of all there were inconsistencies in this story and at times I had to ask myself: What is the real reason Thorsen came to the Island? The real reason he made the purchase? Was it really for Riley or a business decision to make more profit? Out of the blue, not seeing or hearing from Riley or she from him in twelve years 'Thorsen' all of the sudden is ready to spend millions of dollars to purchase the Inn where she works? What were the true motives? If he loved her as he says he did/does would a man let twelve years pass without a word, no contact with Riley whatsoever, no matter what job he had? All through the book we played the name game and it became tiring. What the heck was his real name anyway. And let us not forget that keeping secrets is the same as lying. Sins of omission that can cost you everything including the ones you love most.
And another very troublesome problem for me was this: If he decided he wanted to make this purchase for Riley and himself, how did he know she was single? What if he did all of this to find she was married or in a committed relationship? The plans he had for the Inn...how on earth would he have a clue that those changes would be what Riley wanted in her business plan...and they so were not. He looked none to bright.
The whole story seemed to focus on the ignorance of a very smart and educated man and what he 'claimed' he wanted to do for a woman he loved but had not seen in twelve years without a clue if said woman would even be interested. He messed that up so badly that he was made to look incapable of a sound decision. For me, it placed him in a very poor light. Made him appear dull and a bit dim in his business sense. I guess to sum it up it simply did not make much sense, especially for someone to invest almost all that he had and owned. The story was all over the place.
Although I thought the first half was okay although it did drag somewhat, the last half I found to be almost unbearable.
No recommendation from me on this book. I wish I had passed on this one.
this first book in her next series. And I must say...she doesn't disappoint. She turns up the heat in this new series and brings us back to the U.S. for this sexy and engaging contemporary romance about two people who are given a second chance at love. Riley is a heroine to cheer for and I loved Thorsen. There's nothing like a hero who knows exactly what he wants, is determined to get it...and never wavers in his resolve to win the woman he loves. A wonderful and romantic read. I'm already looking forward to the next book in series.
