This is the first book in the Misty Point series. The series and this book take place in Misty Point Rhode Island. Misty Point is a fictitious beach community where wealthy people from Boston come to relax and sometimes fall in love. In this first book, One Week to the Wedding, wedding planner Kate Daniels is putting the final touches on her best friend Elizabeth’s wedding. Kate is a slave to detail. Keeping to schedules, and making lists. When Elizabeth’s future brother in law comes to town, he disrupts Kate’s careful planning. He is also opening old wounds. He is too similar to her ex-fiancé, but there is something about the dark brooding man that brings a spark of hope. The chemistry between Kate and Alec starts off pretty cool and builds to a warm heat. You will not find intense love scenes in this book. The pacing is a little slow, but there are a few subplots going on. Kate and her friends, Kate and her boss, Kate’s sister Charlotte and her struggles. Alec and his brother. Alec and his father. Alec and his company. The ending was a little disappointing. The struggle took 99% of the story. I think I would have preferred a little more closure. The strongest part of this story was the character development. Most of the characters were given strong character background setting the stage for future books in this series.

Olivia Miles has a true talent for bringing her characters to life and drawing the reader in and actually care about the outcomes of the situations that occurred within the story. One Week to the Wedding is a truly wonderful story about giving love a second chance, following your dreams, and learning to forgive. It was so much fun getting acquainted with all of the characters. The story line flows effortlessly and is the perfect choice to add to your summer reading list. It was truly a heartwarming reading experience and a great start to this new series. I highly recommend this one to any fan of romance and assure you that you won't be disappointed in the least.
Most of the story is told from Kate Daniels point of view but you also get a bit from her sister Charlotte’s and like they say there’s always 2 sides to every story.
Miles paints Kate as this strong but bruised woman. She was in a committed relationship that didn’t end well and has to keep living in a small town where everyone knows her business PLUS she works in the wedding industry which just keeps rubbing salt in that open wound. All around her healing process isn’t going well but the strength of her character definitely makes her the kind of friend any of us would be lucky to have.
Charlotte is the kind of sister that comes straight off some soap opera plot; hell bent on wrecking her sister’s life not because she’s an evil watch but because she’s immature and selfish. Those personality traits are going to end up seriously wrecking her life. Even by the end of the book she still has this mile wide selfish streak where she seems to want everyone else to fix her problems rather than make the difficult choices to do it herself.
It looks like in Book 2 the focus will be on her and hopefully Miles has her see the light because right now I seriously couldn’t stand her and found NO redeeming qualities so I’m not that looking forward to the sequel. I’ll read it since I like Miles writing but after I get through everything else I want to read first.
Aside from the craziness of Charlotte’s character Miles does bring her story to a great conclusion with the satisfactory happy ending for most. A curve ball got thrown in at the extreme end that perfectly sets up Book 2.
