I loved this phone until the home button/fingerprint button stopped working; they're known for doing this. OnePlus Customer Service is awful! Took three weeks of going back and forth before they decided that they would repair my phone. I had the phone for less than 90 days. Once shipped, OnePlus was quick to repair it, but I had to go without a phone in the meantime. I got to enjoy my phone for another 2 months before the issue reoccrred. My phone is currently being shipped back to me from OnePlus stating that because the Warranty Sticker has been removed, the phone is no longer covered by the warranty. OnePlus has been the only ones to work on my phone. Because of their negligence (of not replacing the Warranty Sticker from the first time being repaired), they refuse to repair it, so I'm stuck with a broken phone.

As usual, the star rating has let me down, but if I had my choice, I'd give this phone 2.5 stars.

OnePlus sells this phone as the 'flagship killer', with it's impressive display, camera, and low price point, it seems to hit the nail on the head. It seems as if OnePlus has truly tried to make a great phone, as technically there's no downside to this devise as opposed to many other flagships. Starting the phone up you immediately notice the display. It's sharp and crisp and appears bigger and better than most screens I've experienced. Unlike most modern phones, there's a pretty large gap between the top and bottom of the screen and the phone itself; however the symmetry of the gap makes it look sleek, not awkward. The buttons on the side of the screen feel good in your hand, as does the coarse matte-black back. The UI which comes preinstalled is one I was semi-familiar with, and the preset settings don't seem invasive. OnePlus touts the camera to be best-on-market, and I see no reason to disagree. The lens seems to zoom and focus precisely and quickly. Compared to other phones I've had (G3,MotoX,Nexus5), this camera takes the cake.

Once I started to use the device more, I became less and less impressed. Within the first twenty minutes of being activated, the phone froze. Sure, I was installing an app while running another, but with the "impressive qualcomm processor" I figured this would be little issue. This was a true freeze, as the phone got increasingly hot and didn't respond for 60-seconds, I was forced to restart. I concluded that maybe it was doing things in the background as well, having been just set up, and that I'll take it easy for a while and return to the task.

OS constantly locks up, fingerprint scanner and home button doesn't respond or lags, fingerprint scanner malfunctions 100% of the time if the screen is on and most of the time if the phone is charging. Common apps constantly crash and lock up, I'm forced to do a full hard reset multiple times a day. There are absolutely zero accessories available, you're hard pressed to even find generic garbage that fits the phone. I was a OPO fanboy before, I'll never buy another phone from OnePlus again after owning this piece of s***. No removable battery or external storage either, or rapid charge, they've gone away from their direction with the OPO. Stay far, far away from the OPT, don't make the mistake I did, going off hardware and short-ownership reviews and the popularity of the OPO.

UPDATE: Since the Oxygen 3.0 (i.e., Marshmallow-based) update was pushed to my phone, system stability and performance have been greatly improved. Still some quirks, but this is much closer to the phone I thought I was purchasing. Revised from one star to three stars.

Earlier review:
Pros: purchase price, battery life, uh...

Cons: Pretty much everything else.

I bought this phone to replace a 2.5 year old Nexus 5 (2013), was which starting to get a little pokey for my taste. I would never have imagined that its late 2015 replacement would make my old Nexus 5 look like a speed demon.

Laggy response in too many circumstances to name. Seems to stop responding to touch input for several seconds, then suddenly catches up and tries to process all your buffered inputs. Freezes and/or spontaneously reboots at least once every 72 hours. Massive color distortion in photos taken using any kind of digital zoom (sample attached).

I hunted for tips to solve known bugs/issues. Found some that looked promising, but none were effective. Have owned the phone for just over a month, and my patience is pretty much gone. Did I just get a lemon? Maybe. But barring their monopoly takeover of the entire market, this is my first and last OnePlus purchase.

Update: July 18 2016. I followed the advice of another customer and filed a PayPal claim when the efforts to resolve the problem were not leading to any reasonable solution. PayPal helped to receive full refund for the purchase because the item was within 180 days from the date of the shipment. Lesson learned - no more flagship killers, just the flagships.

It seemed to be a great phone when I was looking at the website and reading through the specifications. I went ahead and ordered the phone and it arrived on May 5, 2016. It had a short battery life, but that was not concern for me because I can recharge if needed at work, part of me was somewhat concerned with 3300 battery not holding up, especially being flagship killer.

The home/fingerprint button quit working on June 19, 2016. After performing factory reset, which did not help, I called the technical support. They suggested that it is a hardware problem and phone needs to be sent back. Since “it is Sunday” someone will contact you with arranging that tomorrow. I received an email next day requesting the proof of purchase, which I immediately sent. Then another email from “escalation team” asking me if I want to create an RMA. I confirmed that.

I have not heard from them the next day so I called. First tech support guy did not find an RMA for the phone and was going to create one. He also described the process that the phone will be fixed within 7-10 days and shipped back. I asked for a new phone because it is only 45 days old or at least a replacement. After that request the tech guy hang up on me. I called back and the second technician refused to send a replacement or a loaner.
