Now don't fret, Axel and Angel still make an appearance in No One's Hero. The story however, is Lexi and Kevin's. We did meet both characters in No One's Angel, but now we really get to know them.
After the mess with Angel's ex everyone is one edge. The trial is looming in the furture and Axel is fearing for the safety of Lexi. She is off for her freshman year at college and couldn't be happier. Her whole life she has been living under the cautious eyes of her parents. Due to an unforseen incident at birth, Lexi's life has been anything but normal.
Finally ready for a chance to spread her wings, Lexi heads up to Chadwell Farm to say goodbye to her friends. Her excitement is ebbed when she is introduced to Kevin, her body guard.
Lexi can feel the freedom that she has been seeking slowly slipping through her fingers. She however doesn't let that stop her, giving Kevin a run for his money when it comes to protecting her.
Kevin is all about the job. After an incident that has scarred him beyond belief, he swears that nothing will get in his way of protecting Lexi. The fact that she is beautiful, strong willed, and a little bit sheltered doesn't help the growing feelings that he has towards her.
Both fight the feelings that are building, but is it better to play it safe or to follow your heart? Just when they start to drop their guard all hell breaks loose. Danger and surprises attack them from all sides. Secrets that have been kept for years are revealed and the consequences that come from those revelations are not the easiest to deal with.
Will Lexi and Kevin get a chance to experiance the feelings that keep each one their toes or will the danger that surrounds them steal their chance?
Obviously since there is possible danger for her, there is a section of the story where you feel on edge because you can't help but wonder what's going to happen and there's even a twist that I wasn't expecting at all. And I have a feeling who the next book is going to be about and I can't wait. Kelly Walker never disappoints and her stories keep me enthralled. If you are wondering if you should read this book, you should. I highly recommend it along with the first book too. You'll be glad you did.
I was somewhat torn between giving it either 3 or 4 stars, but felt that the 3 star rating (based on goodreads' standards) suited more to my feelings of the novel. I enjoyed reading this story in the series, but not as much as the first one. That being said, let's dive deep into the review.
*Side note: If you just want to know whether or not you should read this book, skip to the 2nd to last paragraph.
As you know from the synopsis, Lexi is our lead female character in this part of the series. If you've read the first one, you'll remember her as a dear, close friend of Axel's. However, it's fine if you don't as Ms. Walker does a nice job of reminding those who have short term memory about what happened in the first book.
The basic gist of Lexi's character:
Of course Lexi is a lot more than these 5 qualities, but again, that's the basics of who she is. Growing up with the death of her twin as a constant presence has had to toughen her up into the strong, independent young lady she is today. Unfortunately, those lovely qualities don't come without a price as she's had to deal with the pain of losing the other half she never got to know, watching her mother come undone, and not really having a lot of people to share her feelings with as she's seen as the girl who has an "abnormal" obsession with horses among her peers. Despite the odds, that's where the optimism comes in as you see her hopeful of a better future when she goes to college.Read more ›
Kevin & Lexi's relationship starts out as antagonistic, just a job kinda thing. And then they become friends, the whole time pretending to fight their attraction to one another. *laugh* I say pretending, because they would each be thinking doubts about the sanity of moving forward, but their actions would immediately call them out on that line of thought!
And there are a couple really, really great surprises going on in this story. Loved that!! I normally can see certain things coming, but this gave me a few AHA! moments that were awesome! : ) AND! Not only do we get all up in Kevin & Lexi's heads, we also get glimpses at what's going on w/ Axel & Tess, love love love!
So, 5+ stars, and looking forward to the next books in this series. Definite keepers!! : )
