If you're an audiophile you'll be very disappointed with the HT-S7800. I consider myself an audiophile as I've had high end systems my entire life, but this time I was just looking for a lower priced Dolby Atmos surround system for my bedroom and this worked out for this use. Bedroom is 24x18 and it fills the space nicely, now that I've added a second Polk sub. After getting everything hooked up and setup properly the first movie I tried was Gravity and I was actually impressed. The speakers aren't high quality, had I had more time to put together a component system I could have probably done a better for the money, but I just wanted "easy" this time. For watching movies it does a good job, but not so much when listening to music. In stereo mode the system relies too much on the front speakers and doesn't utilize the sub as much as it should. Fortunately you can hook up a second sub so I added a low priced Polk PSW10 which fixed that issue. A few nice features are CEC control, ARC, Airplay and the ability to control the receiver with the Onkyo Control app from my iPhone, though the app is a bit clunky. Overall the Onkyo HT-S7800 ins't bad for an "entry level" home theater system.
Because of this I looked to Onkyo when I decided to make the full jump to 4K and Dolby Atmos sound. I did a lot of research and there were a lot of people who screamed “don’t buy a full box setup! It’s garbage. After a while you’ll have to replace everything piece by piece”. I read other reviews from professional review websites that said things are different now, these one box solutions have come a long way and this is a great less expensive option.
Wellllll... first off. I can tell this receiver isn’t as great as my last Onkyo. I can hear odd clicks at times, the audio at times is sketchy. (Usually only with streaming services, but I expect better than that.) the sound itself isn’t even as impressive as my last setup and this is supposed to be the Atmos leap! I am running 4K disc tiles with Atmos tracks that sound “meh” at best.
On to the major problem. The one most people have with this system, the subwoofer. It didn’t work at all right out of the box. Ok maybe it did for 15 mins at a time. It just wasn’t what you could define as working.
I then struggled to get a hold of customer service. The phone was pointless, I had some luck on twitter but even that took 2 weeks of back and fourth to finally find a certified place to take it to. After a month the sub is “fixed”. I bring it home and it “works.” By works I mean it kicks in about 8 seconds after the bass in the show or song kicks in. Again. I don’t consider that “working” I paid good money I want it to work as close to flawlessly as possible. That’s a joke.
Which brings me to today. After having the subwoofer for only 2 months after being fixed, it doesn’t work AT ALL again. This isn’t a joke. It’s now dead again. Luckily, I never sold my Polk sub from my old setup and will be using that from now on. I wasted $900 that I could have out toward the theater setup I’ll eventually have to replace this novice junk with. I am sure the receiver will go in the future and I will start replacing speaker by speaker. Which is what I should have done in this instance from the very beginning.
But hey, I should have known better. You get what you pay for.

The only complaint I have is that the sub-woofer seems to be a bit weaker than I expected however it is still very capable of giving a rich audio experience.
the self calibration did not work very well but after playing around a bit. i got it sounding pretty damn good. good deal for the price.
After that….. OMG !! This system is awesome!! The sound is really good and powerful !! It's a really good product, I don’t regret buying it. If you want a all in one system that is powerful and sounds awesome… It’s the one you need !
