5 out of 5 stars
The story Only: The Alex Conner Chronicles Book Three by Parker Sinclair is a fantasy/romance book. This is the continuing story of Alex Conner. When I read the first book in this series I fell in love with the character of Alex Conner and each book afterward only make me love her more. She has had such a hard life, however, has grown up to be a wonderful woman who has a large heart and always thinks of others. She is also smart, sassy, and takes action when she needs to. This story finds Alex taken by the King of the Fae. He is determined to get Alex to help him and will use any means necessary in order to do so. Can Alex thwart the King’s plans?
Alex is not alone. She has her friends that are always there for her and they immediately begins the job of finding and rescuing her. They use all of their skills and magic. Alex’s friends are a group that is fiercely loyal both to her and to each other. Nothing will stop them from their mission to bring Alex home. What will the final outcome be? Will Alex be able to resist the King as well as keep her friends safe? Will Alex escape the clutches of the King and put an end to his evil plans? I have always loved fantasy books and I love how authors weave their tales around worlds and characters that come from the author’s imagination. This author has created a story with characters that will have your imagination running wild. Her attention to detail is amazing. I have read all three of the books in the series and I highly recommend reading them in order. This is one author that has a wonderful way of weaving stories and I can’t wait to read what she writes next.
Taken by the king of the Fae who has his own agenda in mind for Healer Alex Conner, she will be caged until she gives him what he wants. But, within her realm of consciousness she is caught within different realties and at times she is not sure who to trust, what she cannot remember and will she succumb to what this king wants. As she connects with Ryan the man she wants can she control her powers during difficult situations while facing a life and death situation. Her friends are working hard to finding her and rescuing her but that does not negate the facts that they are in fighting themselves as they introduce Valiant to their unusual group. Magic, might help their loyalties to each other might help rescue her but will that be enough and or will Alex find herself within the realm of this King forever.
Alex if a hybrid Earthen Protector Healer and the strongest of her kind and the King of Fae thinks she knows something, which is at the heart of this novel. Spells can take over, magic can remove her thinking and she begins to forget pieces of her life and who she loves hoping that the King of Fae will release her and find her way back to Ryan.
Knowing she is in a dungeon and in a cell she never expects to get help from one of her captors. Verus who is known by another name to her has approached her hoping that they can both work together to free her of the hold that the King of Fae has on her, the drugs that she has been given and help Verus find her way back to Misa the woman of her dreams. Wearing a bracelet locked on her wrist by magic she can no longer use her powers but the author has yet to reveal why this king wants her in his hold and what does he want? Added in the medicines or drugs take away her memory, her powers and she starts to forget her friends and Sandra who has powers that would help her but her messages do not come through. Flashing in her own mind to Ryan hoping that she will be with him soon and able to control her life. With the help of Verus she might be able to use her powers but she will have to fake it while in the presence of the other guards. Added in she receives new powers that she uncovers but will they help free her? With the help of his minions he keeps Alex drugged, away from her friends and each of her dreams are so vividly depicted and described by Alex while the King creates those dreams manipulating her making her realize that what she sees, hears and dreams might not be reality.
Alex must try to escape her prison and help the person who the King searches for before he finds them. Will Alex be able to escape? Will her friends be able to bring her back to who she was before? Is she doomed to tell the King what he wants to know? Read and find outlet Conner has been trapped in a cage by the King of the Fae. She has been here for what feels like forever. She has no way of escaping on her own, he has somehow taken away her ability to use her powers. Not to mention the fact that he keeps drugging her. Each time the drug kicks in; she ends up in a dream world with the King. Turns out he is trying to find something out from her. But this drug is also able to make her forget who she is or who her friends are.
Enter Thatcher a feline cat who has managed to connect with Alex and promises to help her escape but first she has to promise him something too. As Ryan connects with her in seductive way in a dream, Versa she hopes along with Misa will work on getting her powers back Thatcher creates a hologram of Alex to hopefully fool the king. Yet, we still don’t know if it’s and object or a person that the King wants Alex to find or give him. Using her dreams they hope to connect with her but how and what will they use to help her remember.
Sandra and Jax are close and they connect with the rest of the group hoping to get another member, a demon, to work with and free Alex. There are many variables involved and the author includes the fact that Alex uses dreams to connect to her friends and Ryan and sometimes it’s hard to tell whether something is real or in her imaginary dreams. Hoping the cat can help her release the bracelet and find her way back to her friends before the King gets what he wants.
Things spiral out of control as Sandra connects with Alex and Ryan sees her in his dreams while waiting for the team adding in Dana, Valiant, Jax and the rest to form a plan to get Alex away from the King. When a call comes in from someone named Nora who they have not heard from in years they should have realized that this might be a trap and what they see is total destruction, death, devastation created by a diabolic King that has yet to reveal what he wants besides Alex as his prisoner. The scene is quite graphically depicted and the author even through the King and the others creates sound effects as the screams, fire, and harrowing experience should have forewarned them that getting to Alex would take much more than what they had already planned or dished out. When Sandra finally gets to Alex she tells her to get out and leave her. Dana created something that would eat through anything and hopefully remove the bracelet but will it eat through Alex too?
Every time Alex thinks she is home free or safe the King comes at her with different ways of torturing her. Nora is injured and Alex wants to bring her back. Nora is a Seer like Jax and they both need to find a way to bring Sandra and Logan to her but how can they get past the spell surrounding where they are? The king has devised a sick and diabolical plan and would allow Nora and her family to hear the anguish from Troy, but he would keep their loved ones from getting to them fast enough. Bodies were falling, people died in front of her and if Logan could see that was going to happen to Nora and if Troy called out, then they may be the only ones to help reach outside of his trap. This is a story of friendship, loyalties, distrust, betrayals, murder, fear, and a king that is focused on taking out Nora but why? As Alex looks at the dead and their loved ones distraught and crying will she find a way back home, will she bring Lestan back and what about Justin? Thatcher appears to be trusted but is he working with the King? Promising to protect her yet she could have left with Versus, Misa and been save and trying to fend for themselves knowing that Lestan would never have a chance at life again. But, things unravel in tragic way as Alex thinks that Lestan and Thatcher are her friends that Versa and Misa will be there to protect her but somehow the King just might win. He has brought someone there and demands that this person give her loyalty to him and states but can you trust him that Alex will go free but she is smart, has a wise mouth and the end result you just won’t believe. Justin came to keep her safe but was he really Justin? Hearing Lestan talk about Justin and telling Alex that he could never hate her and that somehow they can make things safe for her in Avalon but only if the King is taken down and that does not look like it might happen any time soon unless she can regain her powers and take him down but can she murder someone and live with it? All of a sudden Alex realizes that she might have been deceived by everyone that she trusted: Verus, Misa, Thatcher, Leston and even Ryan and where is Ryan? Gaia was manipulated too into working for the King and as she realizes that she might have the same fate as so many others that she just witnessed as author Parker Sinclair throws someone a dangerous curve ball and the end result is the king’s close around the last link to her friends and she hears Ryan scream and outside of the dungeon she lives in she sees Logan, Sandra and the mouths are moving but she hears nothing until a thunderous noise comes out and then the two pins that Versus gave her Serenity and Chaos take over and the end result is a fight to the death as in Chapter 16 titled Trust Alex will face off and she will have to deal with the fall out.
The King is devious and when he thinks he has lost he begins to repent but never ever count him down and out as he threatens his children, declares his revenge and then something happens to Alex and the end is near but for whom? The ending lets us know that the author is not done with Alex and there is someone she needs to find and she needs to reconcile what she had done. A lie comes out and the truth about someone close to her is found and she begins to doubt everything she has been through when she arrives home and learns the harsh reality behind someone that she thought was someone else that is now gone. What is Lestan’s Fate? What about Justin? Where will Alex go next for answers about someone close to her that was ripped from her life? Who sent her father into another dimension? That’s for the next chapter of the Alex Connor Chronicles! Stay tuned I know I will!
Characters with multiple personalities, different ways to travel, link with others, powers that are so diverse that many readers might wish they could do what Sandra and Alex can do to take down foes. The Fae King Tristan: Who wins him or Alex? Is Alex the one who can take him down: ONLY HER!
This book gets four and a half stars
When an alternate reality tangles her in confusions in which slowly brings her to forgetting who she really is and forgetting the ones that she loves. Will Alex finally give the Fae King everything he needs?
Even if she does manage to escape from the prison she is being held, will she be able to pick up from where she left off with Her Ryan? Will Alex be able to control her new-found power, that she never knew she had. Or will she forever be entangled in a realm where the ruler is holding her captive and someone she holds dear and is hell-bent on revenge?
This is the second book I have read by Parker Sinclair, and I think it can be read as a stand-alone, as I didn’t feel as though I was lost within the story. But not having read the first two in this series I would recommend reading the rest of this series, so that detail, and flashback that occur in this book don’t get too confusing, but I still felt that the story flowed, wasn’t rushed and carried on at an excellent pace.
Parker Sinclair really captivates the reader from the start with this thrilling, action packed, mystery, suspenseful sexy read. I love this great take on the fantasy world with the added romance twist to the story. The whole time reading this book I wasn’t only captivated by the story line and the characters but the vivid descriptions of the surrounding and scenes taking place throughout the story.
I loved reading the alternate reality that Alex gets put in by the King Fae’s powers, they are so real and vivid even as the reader it’s hard to decide whether what is happening is real or not. With a rollercoaster of emotions throughout this book, you can guarantee as the reader you will feel every character’s emotion, as though you are their along with them, and you will most defiantly find yourself entranced and totally captivated. Parker Sinclair writes this book so vividly you can’t help but get entranced by this book and fully emerge yourself in this action-packed fantasy world.
I loved how this book was written, from the various chapter heading or getting it in a characters POV as you got the thoughts and feelings of that characters and what was going on from their POV and what their story was too tell. Already from just reading this book in the series I already feel as though I know and have connected with the characters.
All the characters within this book are real, have depth and are great secondary characters that make this book even more great. I can’t wait to see if their stories develop further.
Alex is an incredible strong, powerful character, with a great personality that separates her from the others. She not only knows what she wants but she can be really determined, and that one thing she id determined not to do is give the King what he really wants. I loved reading the journey she takes from finding out about her new powers. She has some incredible friendships, in which if it wasn’t for them that she wouldn’t be where she is today, but she is also aware how much danger she is in, and putting her friends at risk is something she doesn’t like to do. She is caring, considerate, an incredible protector of all. She is powerful and headstrong and a force to reckoned with.
This was a great addition to this series, that even only reading two books I can really see how great this series is and how much more it can develop into. This is a great high fantasy, sexy romantic read that will entrance you and captivate you from the very beginning and I can’t wait to see what else Parker Sinclair will bring!
