Now, like a dream come true, I got a whole book inside of his head! I've never wanted to hug someone more!
His character and struggle really speaks to my tragic soul. <3
Thank you, Miss Silverbow, for another amazing tale and oh... I will be expecting more out of the Only series. Much MUCH more!
Note: this review contains spoilers!
Finn is a tortured soul. He used to be a normal child of the eclipse fighting demons and evil then he was attacked and bitten by a vampire. His dreams of attending the special school for more training are gone. He can no longer be in the light. He can no longer have Christine, the girl he has loved forever. But at least he's a good vampire: he doesn't attack people and drink their blood. He gets his blood from a special blood bank. But he doesn't need that any more either. Because the demon that had been in Christine, had been hurting Christine most of her life, the demon everyone thought Christine killed when she drove it from her body, is now in Finn.
And rather than tell everyone right away what had happened, Finn kept the news to himself. Now he is too ashamed, too embarrassed to tell anyone. So now it's not just sunlight that he avoids, but the goodness, the light in people too. Being to close to his new soulmate Claire causes him physical pain and then the demon Miser gets angry at the light, an anger that Finn cannot control.
The reader can feel Finn's pain, his inner turmoil about what he should be doing. The part of him that isn't controlled by Miser wants to be with Claire, wants to do good. Finally, after unintentionally physically hurting Claire, Finn goes to Christine for help. She'll help, but with conditions. He must tell Claire everything, and then he must tell everyone who is going to help him everything.
Well, not everybody. The witches aren't told, but the unicorn Lazarus is. This is a fascinating story. The witches are so unique and well developed and everyone has such a complete backstory you feel as if you've been reading about them forever.
I've given you a taste of the first part of the story, but you'll have to read it yourself to find out what happens. Does Finn have to die to get rid of the demon? Will the demon die? Will any of the others?
Get ready for a wild ride!
