Also, it's really degrading to twins to call them Naughty and Nice, as if one is evil and one is good. Sure, it sounds cute, but if you were a twin or had twins in your family you would realize how awful that is for them.
Jake and Sophie are the epitome of hard and soft, smooth and callous, edgy and refined. Yet they fit so well together. Sophie has been underestimated by her family all her life. What they don't see is her strength of resolve and the naughty librarian underneath her gentle nature. Jake sees her and loves her from afar because he feels he is not good enough for her and doesn't deserve her. Their love story is complicated but hopeful. In the end they get their HEA but not without a few hiccups along the way.
This is Sophie and Jake's story. Sophie fell in love with Jake the first time that she met him, when she was just 5 years old and he was only 10; and the feeling was mutual. But Jake didn't have the amazing childhood that the Sullivan's experienced, he was raised by a abusive and drunk father who used his fists on Jake one too many times. After meeting Zack in fourth grade, he eventually became known as "the ninth Sullivan" because Mary Sullivan welcomed him into her family with open arms.
For the past 20 years, Jake has hid his feelings for Sophie because he knows that he doesn't deserve to be loved by her. She's too sophisticated, classy, and special to be with someone with a past like he has; no matter how successful and wealthy he is today.
Sophie is convinced that Jake will never look at her as anything but a little sister, he makes her feel invisible. So she sets out to prove him wrong at Chase and Chloe's wedding. Instead of blending in like she normally does, she has her makeup and hair all sexed up and not only does she shock her brothers, but she stuns Jake as well.
After an unforgettable and hurtful one night stand, Sophie comes to see the real Jake, and it's not pretty. Three months later while she's crying over her stupidity, Sophie realizes the biggest mistake of her life. Now she just has to tell Jake, the man who she thinks used her for sex and walked away in the middle of the night.
His reaction to her news surprises her more than anything. The big question is why??
A must read!! But you need to read these books in numerical order to be able to understand who everybody is, their relationships, and relevance to the series.
Sophie Sullivan is the "nice" twin in the Sullivans family with SIX brothers to watch out for her. She yearned to be noticed by the man she wanted the first time she saw him... Jake McCann. Jake always worked hard and now Jake owned a chain of Irish pubs. Women loved him, but he only wanted one girl, his best friend's little sister Sophie that he should never desire. When one of the Sullivan brothers got married, Jake and Sophie fell for the atmosphere... and they consummated their relationship... but both felt ashamed... Sophie for succumbing to lust, and Jake for inadequacy. Then Sophie discovered she's pregnant... When Sophie appeared on Jake's doorstep, and Jake accepted the news, he realized he must marry her... but she won't accept, believing he doesn't love her. Jake must convince her to stay... but to do so, he may have to give up his most shameful secret...
The tropes are numerous (accidental pregnancy, bestie's little sister, sexy librarian, bar owner, overprotective brothers...) but they fit together well enough and polished well by the author. Jake's... secret wasn't really that devastating, and Sophie, well, really does feel like a real person, with not too angst-y emotions. Enjoyed the novel.
If you are not caught up with the Sullivan Family, I will tell you that Sophie Sullivan is the "NICE" twin, or at least that is what the family has nicknamed her. Her sister Lori is "Naughty", except when Sophie puts her mind to getting what she wants, which is Jake McCann, she will get as Naughty as she has to. Poor Jake won't even stand a chance.
I don't want to say anymore, because I want to keep the element of surprise for anyone who hasn't read the book yet. But I will say, that this is officially my NEW FAVORITE Sullivan Book. Sorry Marcus, but Jake McCann is my new Sullivan Hero. I flew through this book, stuck on every word, every page....I really loved it....and I loved Sophie. Yeah, she's "NICE", but don't let that fool you, she is a lot stronger than her family even knows.
So my recommendation is to GET THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW!! Ok...you can read the first three, and then GET THIS BOOK!! Can't wait for the next installment of the Sullivan Family. Those boys are going down and they are going down fast!!
