Lexi Blake gets better with each book.
Loved the main characters, but even more, I love the whole world she has created. Not only do I enjoy reading about the main characters, I really enjoy catching up on previous characters (I feel like I need to send a baby gift to baby Cooper), I get to meet new and interesting characters (such as debating the whole Erin/ Theo pairing--I know if anyone can pull it off its this author), and the best part??? I get to get excited about the NEXT book, before I even finish the current one (oh, I can't wait until Charlotte goes into labor-Ian is going to lose his twisted mind, hehehe!!! I want to read about that almost as much as I want to read about Tennessee!). I love how Lexi makes each characters so complete. The prologue said so much in so few words....perfect. I'm not going into the story. The summary says it all and I'm sure other reviewers will also go into those particulars, I just want to share how much I enjoy a well-written book. Lexi Blake in ALWAYS on my auto-buy list. She writes maybe four books per year, so she has also taught me patience (lol). Great, characters-- not only real alpha men but strong, alpha women too, great plotting--me at 3:20 am, "well, maybe ONE more chapter", humor--calling the babies "poopers", great editing, people this is the COMPLETE package. Just buy this book, come into this world, you can only visit a few times per year, but it is worth it. NOW to wait until AUGUST to read about Tennessee, tick tock.
PS: Ian having TWO girls????? Freakin' perfect :).
Jesse Murdoch was captured and tortured in the Middle East by a man that went by Caliph. He tried countless times to break him and turn against his own unit. Eventually he was rescued and brought him, but he was forever damaged. He was brought in this series in book four “On Her Master’s Secret Service”. Jesse used to be a strong independent man, but after coming home and having PTSD he has a low self- esteem. He knows that his team finds him unstable and he’s hit a point where he’s decided its time to resign. That was until Ian Taggart tells him that Phoebe is a spy who’s tricked all of them.
Phoebe (Grant) Graham has been working undercover for some time. She poses as being Ian’s accountant and no one knew better that the clumsy woman was actually a trained spy who been planted by none other than Tennessee Smith. Both of them have reason to be there, but as Phoebe watches Jesse and starts to spend time with the man she realize that he’s not a threat. When she receives a kill order from an unknown person she of course went to go do her job, but didn’t realize that her order was to kill Jesse. Now she’s hoping that she can make sure he’s safe before she disappears in the wind.
“You Only Love Twice” was the most gut-wrenching story to read because these two have been through so much without even understand how they are connected. Phoebe used to be married to a man she deeply loved, but who had been killed. Jesse used to be a whole person, but now he seems to be a shell of the man he used to know. These two will have to fight for each other to pull themselves out before it’s too late.
The story was enjoyable, but I wish there wasn’t so much repetition when it came to Jesse and Phoebe. His self-esteem was so low that he didn’t believe he was worth anything and Phoebe kept rejecting Jesse because she couldn’t let go of her husband. I can understand both sides, but I wish they both would just fully talk instead of hurting each other to avoid a deep discussion.
Overall I still enjoyed the story and I love that everyone in the previous books were as present as always. Lexi Blake did a great job in keeping the story interesting and getting the man who killed and tortured Phoebe’s love ones.
(Note: These all can be read as a standalone, but I HIGHLY recommend reading this series in order because past characters will be in the following installments.)

But this book fell a little flat for me.
Jesse and Phoebe just aren't my favorite characters.
He's not alpha male like the other guys at Sanctum.
The fact that I didn't rate this a 5 like all the others in the series has nothing to do with the writing. The writing was great as always. I just didn't get into this like others. However, I loved the glimpses into the life of Ten. Can't wait for his book! And omg! The banter between Ten and Ian were hilarious!
There is also a part at the end that is from Ian's POV that is great. I want a book about Charlotte and Ian going into labor and his POV of his new family life please...
I was absolutely blown away with this latest installment in the Masters and Mercenaries series. I think all of the M&M fans have been eagerly awaiting Jesse's story, and Lexi did not let us down.
I cried a LOT while reading this book. Yes, I am aware that it isn't healthy to form attachments to imaginary people... but the author pulled me in to yet another one of her worlds and once again I am reluctant to leave. The journey to happily ever after isn't always an easy one and moving on... well... moving on can seem impossibly wrong. You Only Love Twice will pull at the heartstrings.... in that fast-paced, heart pounding, soul shattering, snarky way that Lexi has so obviously mastered.
Buy the book. Seriously. Buy the book. Make a small investment into your own happiness.
