Having said that, the book has a few things I did like. While the "first date" that Ben and Julia go on is laborious and repetitive (she's NOT going to have sex with him but she really, really, really wants to. Enough already), there were a few cute moments, like how she kept getting his name wrong and he kept correcting her. Those are the little things that make me like this author, but the book (and its immediate predecessor) are drowning in LET ME HIT YOU OVER THE HEAD WITH THIS IDEA. Example? Cam-eel. First, it's a stupid "nickname" and she's drawn so unrealistically one dimensional that it grows old. Stuart really doesn't know he's gay and doesn't act on it? Is this 1940? No. Ben's dad (Dick Squared) really humiliates his wife so blatantly and often? And the scene where Julia loses it and she and Ben break up? It felt so unreal and wrong.
Moments where I see the characters I like and enjoy their interaction made me like this book 2 stars' worth. The rest of it annoyed me so much that I wish I'd never "met" them in the first place so I wouldn't want to keep reading and see what happens.
The humor in this book is exactly my kind of funny - the banter had me snorting with laughter! The supporting cast of characters - from Allie and Vince to Julia's crazy family - lends such depth, humor and heart to the story. The chemistry (and sexy times!) between Ben and Julia is smokin' hot! The author tied in so many little things from the first two books - it made all the feels that much deeper. The writing is first rate and such a joy to read. But, what really had me crying happy tears, is the amazing epilogue and bonus chapter!!
I fell even more in love with these characters.
Absolutely loved this series and I cannot wait to see what AC brings us next.
