Overall this is a fantastic item, if you are deciding between this and something else then I say buy this. However, as with anything I do a couple minor gripes. I don't love the sheath. For a $110 hawk, the sheath just feels a little lacking. It is sturdy and well designed to hold/protect the blade, but it could be better. Perfection would be something similar to how the Gerber 22-01629 LMF II locks firmly into its sheath with no need to strap in. Also, I don't love the handle. Don't get me wrong - its not flimsy or slippery or loose - it just feels a little too thick and a little too heavy (and i have larger than average hands). I took off the handle with an Allen wrench and wrapped the grip with 550 paracord, tied into a lanyard on the end. Which not only makes it lighter and more nimble, but now I have another 20 ft of cord should I need it off-trail. I realize Ill give up most shock absorption benefits of the factory grip, but its a trade off I'm willing to accept (and it looks pretty damn cool too).
Blade arrived passing the paper slicing test and the arm shaving test; It's blade/head has a 3.6" cutting [wide] edge. I can't wait to sharpen it, it will be easy to follow the angle, and the pick side too: really scarey pointy.
I use it for opening young coconuts mostly imported from Thailand. i used to use a machete, and i've used a cleaver, but i decided to try this. most people who use a machete to cut off the top of the coconut, hold the coconuts in one hand, and just lop it off with one swift slice. that isn't the way i do it. i put the coconut on a hard surface, steady it with the my left hand, and chop down four times to form a square so the the top just pries up easily. Cleans well. Nice minimalistic nylon sheath. Printed in Big Letters:
I am sure i can find some other uses for it. it will be nice for car camping. And it looks great hanging on a brick wall.

Remember it's more a working tool than a weapon. Its center of mass and weight make it quite clumsy as a one-hand fighting axe but a excellent chopping tool.
In brief, a great buy.
