This isn’t the first episode/TV series type book I’ve read, and I enjoy this type of setup (see most of the books by Sean Platt and company) – though I usually wait until there are enough episodes published that I can get my reading fix. This book is also a mashup of genres, which is also enjoyable and gives the reader lots to think about. That said, this series, so far anyway, would make a great TV show.
The authors’ writing style is descriptive and visual, which makes the story flow well, and the characters are interesting and well developed. The author does a good job of capturing the essence of each time period so that the reader knows where and more importantly when the characters are living. The story so far covers the 1900s, 1970s and 2000s, so there are marked differences in most aspects of the characters' lives. Even with the different years represented it's not confusing for the reader, possibly because each character is so distinct, which lets the reader identify character with time period.
I think it will be interesting to see what happens with the Dane character in future episodes. I was just starting to get interested in him, and then the book was over.
While this is billed as a ghost story, it’s more than that since the characters are so interesting, and I think this will appeal to a wider reading audience than just ghost story lovers or mystery lovers.
I will be eagerly awaiting the next installment to this compelling story.
I picked up the first one on hearing how much a friend was enjoying them, and though skeptical (she's much more into horror than I) gave it a try this week, it being the Halloween season and all. There are many characters, all of them very different and well written, so that even though it is a lot to keep track of, they are all different enough that I didn't get confused. You quickly get a feel for each scenario. Add to that the fact they are occurring in different time periods throughout a roughly hundred year time frame, which adds another level of curiosity at how they are related to each other.
I appreciated the very short, action packed chapters, and the ability of the authors to keep you hooked while doling out the tidbits of story. As a non-horror fan I can report this was not too much for me, yet, and while murdery and twisty things happen, I was more intrigued than squeamish. I'm in for the rest of the story because I need to find out how all of these people end up related!
Readers will be taken deep into novel containing many plots that will indeed lead into one another. But, readers will be kept wondering what's next. There's a billionaire, a prodigy, a ghost, and two show hosts all within this unique story. Plus, many other characters who will leave readers with a sense of danger and chills traveling down their spines. Drama within the Onyx Webb novel, is one that will be highly entertaining as the plots unfold. I loved that that this novel was fast-paced, complex, and full of mystique. I could not get enough of this amazing paranormal fiction. Onyx Webb brings together a set of plots from different time periods. Readers will find themselves connecting with each of the characters. Then there's the motivational message that ties up this extraordinary read. I loved reading this, and I know others will too. A little of everything all wrapped into one exciting novel. I highly recommend Onyx Webb and rate it a five out of five stars.
