I am now an OontZ man 100%! This Speaker rocks my world!!
THIS SPEAKER ROCKS!! So I'm now the proud owner of the Oontz XL original, the Oontz Budz, and now this sweet Oontz Angle 3XL. I bought the Oontz XL after TONS of research online & it lived up to expectations and more. I've included my previous review of the XL vs the competition as well since I will reference it here. So I not only loved the Oontz XL so much, but that they wowed me with stellar customer service made me a believer. I then got the new Oontz Budz, which for the money, are THE BEST sport fit bluetooth ear buds available. Now I'm kind of a AV/audio junky and I just can't seem to get enough...so I ended up also getting the "improved version" of the XL, the Angle 3XL. In my dealings with customer service, I was even contacted by the head of development on the XL to assure me of the quality of their product and how they stand behind it. This impressed me so much that I started a correspondence with him and asked about the improvements between the XL and the 3XL. He affirmed what I already thought, that they did indeed improve on both Highs and Lows with the addition of 2 tweeters and 3 passive bass radiators. It now 1 on each end and a larger one in the center of the back. It's VERY tough to replicate "big speaker" bass in any bluetooth speaker near this size, but this does the job better than any other I tested or heard from my friends. And a tip to get the best bass response out of this or any bluetooth speaker is to back it up nearly against a wall or anything else larger that can act as a sounding board for the sound/bass to reflect off of and amplify. So now the Review itself. You'll see my original review just below that pits the Oontz XL up against the G-Project G-Boom and the SoundFreaq SFQ-04 Sound Kick. It ALL applies to this as well in how it stacks up...but even better. The Angle 3XL is clearly the best of the bunch. Before I only had the bass output being beaten by a little bit with much larger G-Boom, but now with the refinements made to the new generation Oontz, the 3XL now takes the Bass category as well. It's just "cleaner sound" in every way. The Highs are better and more defined, the Mids are completely natural sounding like you're listening to the studio recording, and now the Low end is rounded out too. If you place against the wall and let it reflect, you'll swear you're listening to a full size stereo system. That's when the bass radiators are at their best. In my little master on suite bathroom, I had to turn it down...and I was IN the shower! And speaking of that, this puppy can go LOUD! It easily trumps ALL the competition I tested here or have demoed with friends or even in stores for that matter. It goes loud enough that you want to turn it down to save your hearing inside a room. And crazier is that it maintains its clarity even at high HIGH volumes. All my others started to sound distorted, reverb crackling of structure of speaker, etc., when you tried to max them out. And even still there MAX was not near this baby. I would put this up against any competitor, even those with "brand names" that jack up the price for no reason. Please read more into my direct comparisons below and check out my pics for size comparisons too. As I said, all I wrote about the original XL applies to this Angle 3XL--except now it's Tighter, clearer & even more well rounded sound than its predecessor. **ORIGINAL REVIEW OF OONTZ XL VS COMPETITION:** This is a Fantastic Bluetooth Speaker! AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AMAZING!!!! I'm a huge tech lover and already had 4 bluetooth speakers before buying this one. It's kind of like Goldy Locks and the 3 bears, one was too small, one was too large, one only plugged in & one was too weak. So I'd been all over the internet scouring to find the best rated ones. I had already had friends that tried the more expensive brands like Bose and Beats & found they can both be equaled or beat (no pun intended). I've always been into AV enough to know that you can always find an "under the radar" brand that is making a comparable product and not marking up just cause of the name. So I won't even talk about the little I Home speaker I have, or the solely plugged in Sony cause they're just not in the same category. I tested this Oontz XL straight up against the G-Project G-boom and the Soundfreaq SFQ-04 Sound Kick. Short Story: overall, it beat them both. Slightly longer story: 1st against the larger G-boom. The bass was slightly deeper in the G-boom. That's to be expected though with larger speakers and a larger body. But it's also double the size and the battery lasts about 1/2 as long as the XL. The other interesting thing to note is that while pretty comparable in overall depth and richness of sound, I would give the win to the XL cause the sound was that much more warm and lifelike, AKA as if it were played on a full size stereo unit. Ironically too, it also was able to go higher in overall volume and maintain the clarity at higher levels. Then for the Sound Kick comparison. Battery life lasts about the same as the XL. Dimensions are different but about the same overall portability. The build quality is OK in the Kick but feels better in the XL. And most importantly the sound quality is markedly better in the XL. It's got far more volume, more bass, and an overall better depth of sound, aka more true to the original recording with highs, lows and mids. So the XL wins against both overall and moves up to my top go-to portable bluetooth speaker.NOW THEIR OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE MUST BE MENTIONED! So I'm always out for a good deal and so while I had the XL in my cart for a long time as I researched online, I noticed they had a Re-certified unit for sale at 1/2 price for $50 so I jumped on it. It arrived with all the stuff very fast and well packed, but had issues playing music. It connected but wouldn't play ether from Bluetooth or Aux. I sadly submitted for a return. Oontz contacted me same day and asked to confirm my address so they could send me out a Brand New XL right away. I was so blown away that they not only were sending me a new one immediately, but also that they weren't even making me bother with sending back the defective unit. I wrote them and thanked them profusely for having such excellent customer care and how much that meant in this modern online world. I even got a personal human Representative as my contact & then even was contacted by one of the main techs on the product development team to assure me they build only top quality sound products and stand behind them 100%. They even offered me a discount on the newer Angle 3XL should I choose to get another one down the road. Phenomenal customer service! You can definitely feel comfortable buying from Oontz/Cambridge Soundworks with ANY of their products.

They even offered me a discount on the newer Angle 3XL should I choose to get another one down the road. Phenomenal customer service! You can definitely feel comfortable buying from Oontz/Cambridge Soundworks with ANY of their products.

I love this speaker so much I bought three of them.

The sound is rich and about as accurate as could be imagined with a speaker of this size. It is fantastic with vocals and jazz -- it sounds like the musicians are in the room. Mid-range and treble are great. Bass is also good given that the speaker is portable and can be easily carried in one hand. Bass is pushed out of the end of the speaker. Vibrations are dampened by very soft rubber feet that support the speaker.

One really nice things about the Oontz is that you can pair two of them using one Bluetooth source. The speakers can play in stereo or mono. They link easily and they stay linked. I've had mono systems for a while (Denon HEOS before this) and I had forgotten how much I love stereo. It makes the sound much richer and more exciting. And with the Oontz you can have two speakers for the price of HEOS, Sonos or Bose.

Another great thing is that you use the buttons on the top of the speaker to increase or decrease the volume or to go forward or back a track. This is very convenient because it doesn't tether you to the audio source.

I had tried other wireless systems -- Denon HEOS and Sonos -- I had been disappointed. They both have too much bass so the sound isn't realistic and not enough mid-range. This isn't great for my apartment building because the bass becomes annoying to neighbors before the sound is loud enough for me to enjoy. I put my HEOS system on Craigslist after using the Oontz speakers for about a month. I had also tried Sonos, which has a great app interface but also has artificially boosted bass.

The fact that Oontz it is a Bluetooth rather than a Wifi system has both advantages and disadvantages. Although this has it's advantages in terms of portability -- you don't have to be near a wifi network -- it also means that the audio channel is more compressed and that the music can be interrupted by a text or phone call. I get around this by powering Oontz with my iPad instead of my phone. Another workaround is to use Google Chromecast audio to send the audio over wifi and to use the 1/8 audio jack into the speaker. This works fine. Nevertheless, this product could be even better if it ran on wifi or -- even better -- on either wifi or Bluetooth. This would blow away the competition.

One other small criticism is that the increment between sound levels is too big. I have found the same thing with other Bluetooth systems -- I think they are governed by the audio increments of the source. The increments on the iPhone for example seem to me to be about twice too large. It's possible to get around this by using the auxillary input. This allows local control of audio in smaller increments but it also means giving up the ability to go to the next track using a button on top of the speaker.

This is a great, great product. I buy a lot of stuff on Amazon but I don't often take the time to rate things because I'm busy. But the Oontz is so great I had to take the time so others can find it too.

By the way, the older version of the Oontz XL is also great -- I bought one for a friend. The sound isn't quite as rich but it is smaller. Also, the smaller Oontz speaker -- about $30 on Amazon -- is also great. I bought FOUR of them as gifts and then bought a fifth one to take when I travel. Altogether, I've purchased 5 small Oontz speakers, one older XL, and three of these new XLs -- all great, great products at a very reasonable price.
