Review

"While reading Open Door Marriage, those questions hit me like a ton of bricks. I wanted answers to all of the madness transpiring within this story, and needless to say, the author, Naleighna Kai, delivered in a major way. I love that she continues to take risks with stories that revolve around relationships, and they are never the same ole relationship stories that we tend to read over and over again. We can always expect shocking and uniquely written storylines with unexpected twists and turns. And the one thing we are guaranteed from this author is a darn good read."--Brenda Hampton, National Bestselling Author of the Naughty Series

""I am Team Alicia forever. This book is more complex than three people engaged in a love triangle. It is about choices, family influences whether positive or negative, secrets and distortions of truth. I loved it from the first scene to the finale. All three characters Dallas, Alicia, and Tori engage in a charade that provides the reader with glimpses of love, pain, silliness, and a whole lot of drama. None of them are exempt from the myriad ways they go about proving their love for the others. A couple of great subplots rounds out a great read. If you'd wanted to know how an open relationship works, this is your book. Loved it!
--Joyce A. Brown, author of What You Can Get Away With and Getting Away With Everything.

Loved it from beginning to end! My only complaint is that my job and sleep kept interfering with my reading time! A true page turner!!!
--L. A. Lewis, author of Dirty Secrets II

From the Author

Open Door Marriage, is the first fiction work to launch mega-powerhouse publisher, Brown Girls Publishing created by national bestselling authors, Victoria Christopher Murray and ReShonda Tate Billingsley.  The story centers around three people caught up in an all too familiar triangle. When the love of Dallas Avery's life disappeared, she resurfaces years later at the most inopportune time. Oh, he still loves Alicia Mitchell, an older woman who captured his heart, but it's unfortunate that he's now engaged to a woman he learns--is her niece. When his fiancée, Tori, lays a proposition on the table, it seems that everyone will get a little of what they want, but maybe a whole lot of what they don't. The stage is set for them to learn one valuable lesson: There's no right way to do a wrong thing.

This book right here...a refreshingly unique story line. We do see stories where there's another woman, but this spin right here?! Oh my goodness! The characters in this book are so easy to connect with. Right from the beginning, we're right in the middle of Tori's family's Thanksgiving Dinner...opening lines "You slept with my aunt?" <insert jaw drop here>. And just like that, she pulls you in!

Now...try as you might, there are some twists and turns throughout that make you screw your face into all types of contorted looks because you'll wonder "what brand of crazy Kool-Aid" these folks have been drinking! From Tori who came up with this crazy idea, to Dallas and Alicia who go along with it! Then, there's Berniece, Tori's crazy mama....lawdy..she needs some help. It's no wonder Tori has issues...her mama is slam crazy! (it's kinda sad really...)

Dallas' family has another set of drama that is just waiting to explode. I didn't see THAT coming.

At some point, you have to wonder if and when the folks will come to their senses (or at least what we think they should do). Can Dallas let go and choose the woman he truly loves but can't give him what he wants, a family, or will he go with the younger woman who is more socially acceptable to be on his arm because they're the same age? Better yet, can't he just have both and say the hamfat with it? Tell society to shut the front door and live his personal life as his personal life? Well...you certainly want to read this book and see how it goes.

I will admit though..'bout halfway through the book..I wanted to punch Dallas in the throat...then I wanted to punch Alicia...I wanted to punch Tori from the jump though..lol...Great read, the only reason I put it down after I started reading last night is because my body betrayed me and passed out.

NBA star basketball player Dallas Avery is engaged to his best friend, Tori after she’s helped him through the most trying time of his life. For Tori, there are far more important factors in choosing a mate than love. She found those qualities in Dallas and is now enthusiastically planning the wedding of the year. Thanksgiving dinner exposes Dallas was in love prior to meeting Tori, with a much older Alicia. Dallas obviously never resolved his feelings for Alicia. Tori, resolves not to lose the man of her dreams, by any means necessary. This three-way love triangle is risqué to say the least. There were so many twist revealed in this story.

While reading Open Door Marriage, the twists and turns were astounding. Not only were the main characters story line well developed and presented, the secondary characters had a story line of their own. When the drama unfolds throughout the book, you will be left with a slack jaw and angry feelings for some. Open Door Marriage was my first read by this author and will not be my last.

It was supposed to be a nice normal family Thanksgiving dinner, until the words "You slept with my aunt?" were thrown across the table. The scene that followed those lines in the book had me laughing so hard, I caught the hiccups. This book Open Door Marriage will have you rolling your eyes, arguing with a couple of the characters, (I want to smack Bernice into the middle of next week), and wondering if the whole entire family needs to check into the nearest insane asylum.

The lengths that Tori goes through to get what she wants, makes you want to reach into the book and try to shake some sense into her; when is enough, enough??? Dallas will make you have a love / hate relationship with him; one minute you're going, "Awwww, that's sweet", then the next minute, "What in the world is wrong with him?" The characters are very relate-able; we all either know someone like them, are like them, or are related to someone like them. I especially loved the ending; I was cheering so loud, people thought I'd lost my mind. (I was reading in public, lol).

If you're looking for a good read with relate-able characters, drama, more drama, twists & turns, then I would highly recommend that you read Open Door Marriage.

Lengthy. Silly and just plain ole desperate. Couldn't relate and or empathize with these characters. Utilized speed reading to make it through. Didn't care for this book at all. Save your money.

I hate this book - how could one circle of folks have so many dysfunctions? There were numerous grammatical errors - just would not recommend to even a worst enemy

OMG..OMG...where do I start?!?! From the moment I read the "look inside," I was ANXIOUS to read this book. Preferring the actual book vs. the Kindle edition most of the time made it difficult but this time the Kindle edition won!!!!! Needless to say, I stayed up from after 9pm last night until I finished the book after 4am!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES, it was just that good---I could NOT put it down (not even to use the bathroom)!!!!! This book was sooooooooooooooooooo good and really shows how some people will marry for all the wrong reasons and the fact that love doesn't have to be traditional (regardless of age and other differences). I was getting worried when things started shifting and Alicia kept running but I knew that Dallas wouldn't give up. Now that dummy Tori, I feel bad for her. What woman in her right mind wants to share her man?!?! A good one at that?!?! But the things some people do for "things." I was sooooo happy at the ending:) When I went to bed (a few hours ago), my heart was still racing. I will be reading this one again:) GREAT STORY...and it gives the cougars a little hope;) LOL
