Product Description

The Open Mesh OM5P-AC is a cloud-managed, dual-band, 1.17 Gbps (300+867 Mbps) access point that makes it easy to deploy professional, robust wireless networks anywhere. With the ability to support up to 20-50 simultaneous users, this access point is ideal in dense environments with a large number of access points, such as hotel rooms, apartment complexes, dorm rooms, care facilities, restaurants, retail stores and offices. Pair this access point in an OM Series Ceiling or Ethernet wall jack enclosure for elegant in-room or ceiling installations close to network users. With dual radios, the OM5P-AC supports higher speeds available in the 5 GHz 802.11ac spectrum along with support for legacy devices that are only 2.4 GHz capable.

Operating on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies, the OM5P-AC Dual-Band 802.11ac Wireless Access Point from Open-Mesh is designed to provide extensive, high speed, wireless network access. In addition to dual-band functionality, this access point supports the 802.11ac Wi-Fi networking standard offering data transfer rates of up to 1.17 Gbps. Inside the access point are two internal dual band antennas producing a power output of up to 19 dBm (79 mw) to cover distances of up to 50' indoors and up to 100' outdoors. Additionally, the OM5P-AC AP comes equipped with a 720 MHz dual-core processor and 128 MB of DRAM to ensure smooth operation under some of the most demanding conditions.

With dual Gigabit PoE compliant Ethernet ports, this Open-Mesh access point can be installed virtually anywhere and doesn't require a standalone power source. Simply utilize one of the many housing options for indoor, outdoor, and even ceiling installation. Once installed the AP and network can be managed using the Open-Mesh mobile app CloudTrax available for both iOS and Android devices. Automated alerts can also be configured to show network status, provide email alerts to notify of network outages and more.

Ordered 2 of these along with the MR1750 to upgrade the wireless in my house from 6 year old Airport and Airport Extreme. Its a 2 story colonial and I was having issues getting good signal throughout the house and at the pool. Installation was very easy. I did a bunch of research and decided on the Open-Mesh systems. Along with the intelligent setup and configuration I love the flexibility with all of the mounting options they have available, for a cost of course, along with being able to power them with POE. One of the OM5P-ACs is wired directly to my hub in my office, one is wirelessly meshed in our bedroom on the 2nd floor (the connection speed is halved since its an additional hop) and the MR1750 is connected via POE from the living room to the office hub. I now have signal throughout the house, in my garage, at the pool and throughout my yard. The CloudTrax setup was simple and I do like getting alerts if one of them is unavailable for whatever reason (like losing power) and having the ability to configure them remotely via CloudTrax.

The one negative with these is the limited options for configuring them. I'm used to using OpenWRT on a Buffalo router which was connected between my Airports and the cable modem. This allowed me to use VPN and some other options with my connection. Since these don't have any really advanced options I'm still using the Buffalo router between these and my cable modem to setup my VPN connection. For most user this won't be an issue but just be aware.

I love the ability to be able to add more down the road. Overall I couldn't be happier and definitely recommend them especially for those that don't want to jump through hoops to configure and use multiple access points throughout a large home or space.

Too many difficulties getting acceptable speeds. I was running the MR1750 on the second floor of my home and connecting the OM5P hardwired to ethernet below. I get 90 Mbs down by ethernet but I couldn't get better than about 20 Mbs 10 feet away. If I went on the otherside of exterior wood wall it would drop below 10 or worse wouldn't even connect. Their tech support was not able to resolve the poor performance.

I switched to the unifi access points and had much better performance. In under 10 minutes I had the unifi product set up and blasting out speeds of 89 Mbs, and much better coverage through walls, across the house, and all devices getting blazing speeds.

If you are technically savvy, you should try out the open-mesh router products. The Cloudtrax management interface is good and quite flexible. The products aren't the most attractive things out there but it'll be alright to have them out in most spots.
