The concept and mythical figure of Justice is always depicted as being blind and holding a balanced scale of equality. The bar associations always portray a balanced scale of measurement.

Mr. Crump’s work challenges that myth, illustrating with case after case, litigation after litigation, the color and directional tip of the scale. There are two judicial systems he has experienced: one for the minority and one for the majority. His review of specific cases draws upon his years of experience, following in the tradition of his hero Thurgood Marshall, of litigating and advocating for social justice.

This book is the needed companion to the current discussion of police reform, expanding the conversation to include the justice system created by those being protected.

Mr. Crump structures his presentation around specific issues: voter suppression, imbedded stereotypes creating different pursuit and apprehension protocols, criminalization of non-violent behavior, definition of appropriate force, justifiable weapon usage, and many more techniques used to define “a criminal class”.

Using current case experiences, and drawing on historical judicial history, Mr. Crump observes “Every time the federal government passes legislation granting rights to African Americans, it seems the court sweeps in and takes them away.”

The book’s subtitle is clearly supported. “Legalized Genocide of Colored People.”

I wondered about the author who is one of the first lawyer called when a minority is on the wrong end of a gun and law enforcement, He seems to cut through the chaff while others are chanting or denying. This book explains why he thinks like he does and how he got to the go to attorney for the bereaved. He picks his words carefully, just like hedoes when interviewed and is spot on most of the time. I recommend his book if you're interested in the why of what is going on to make us uncomfortable.

As a long-standing student and educator of race relations, I found Mr Crump's book well organised, supported by credible sources, and well representative of the facts that study after study in my field has proven to be true. Black and brown men explicitly being targeted by police. Hands up don't shoot and taking a knee during the national anthem because our country is not for us has not worked. Mr Crump has a substantial amount of experience as an attorney representing families of murdered black and brown people. Crump also represents inmates who are wrongfully convicted of a crime; often sentenced by unjust laws that were put in place to continue the oppression of minorities and the poor. Crump's book is a fantastic book that presents facts in a way that mainstream culture can understand and feel passionate about.

From the first African sold in America, through slavery, Jim Crow, Segregation, Desegregation, impaired voting rights, substantial inequities in education, employment, housing, healthcare and incarceration, Black folk have been afforded the back hand from white folk, more or less. Everyone who thinks they understand racial inequality, and is not Black folk, themselves, had better read this book and watch what happens before their eyes.

I’m reading this book and the information is note worthy and probably should be read by ( using his terminology ) COLORED PEOPLE that rarely if ever pick up reading material , but as I go though this book I keep thinking to myself YES ALL THIS IS relevant , but it would have been even MORE interesting and beneficial had Mr. Crump expanded into the subject on how ( US ) colored people disrespect and murder each other far more often ( which to me is also an even greater form Of Genocide/ Self hate . I'm waiting for a book on THIS TOPC to be SERIOUSLY delved into and ways to combat THIS ISSUE in our own community’s for ourselves .
