This book was a page turner for me; I enjoyed all of it. Early on some advantages do fall into the hero's lap; but never fear, later on the hero encounters serious obstacles and earns his progress through his own merits and risk-taking. There is also suspense and mystery, as for the most part our knowledge is limited to what the hero experiences, and there are layers to what is going on so that this series does not fall into a trite formula where you already know in advance what will happen.
Bottom line this book is fun and keeps the pace fast enough so you're not bored. I was actively engaged the whole time and read it in a few days. If you like the LitRPG genre this book is great and I highly recommend it.
If you don't know what LitRPG is its basically a genre in which characters do things inside a video game they connect to from the real world. The life of the person mostly happens through the game so it includes tons of info on skills learned, points, and decision making on these topics.
This is a great addition to the genre. I loved it and can't wait to see what happens next.
All in all, an enjoyable ride from a talented new author. My main issues lie with the pacing of the novel: I think things progressed a little too quickly for the MC, with a few too many dramatic points being run through in what could have been two separate novels. Adding too many tends to cheapen the authenticity for me, but others may enjoy the more active process, so it's a personal opinion.
No matter what, I will be eagerly looking forward to the sequel.
Simply put, I couldn't put this down and got yelled at a couple times by my wife because I was caught reading instead of doing my share of the house chores... worth it.
I finished this now and am sad.
The only issue I have is that the ma in character's dialog begins with the word "Um" 90% of the time. It drives me nuts when people talk like that and I don't really want to read filler words too.
One of the online things that kind of bothered me was that I felt like the MC's character development was a little slow for everything that has happened to him. Maybe it just seems like this because of EVERYTHING that happened to him, but I'll just have to wait until the next book and see how it goes from there. Granted what young male ex-college student isn't a little slow on wanting to grow up lol.
Again I just wanted to say great job on the wonderful book, and I will definitely recommend it to anyone I can. I can't wait for the next one to come out!!!
