In this book 17 opera's are treated. The author gives a biography of the composer of the opera and then an elaborate summary of the story. This book gives you a background about a few opera's, but it can not tell you what a opera sounds and looks like. As a source of background-information to some famous opera's is it worth downloading. As a sample of this book I have copied the first few line of the summary of the story of 'The Bohemian Girl' by Balfe below.

The Count was the Governor of Presburg, and a very popular man, except
with his inferiors.Read more ›
