Madeleine Belmar, the young widow works for a jerk that demands lots of unpaid overtime and gives no respect to his employees. Her family owns Belmar Bakery and she is sent to deliver the Christmas cookie tins that Brad ordered for Operation Christmas to be sent to troops overseas.
Madeleine's desire to help with Operation Christmas, her meddling family, Jess's persistence in asking her out and a robbery make this heart warming story an adventure as these two work to overcome the mental anguish caused by the losses of war. The message in this book honors all veterans and men and women that serve in our military; Barbara Weitz wrote a wonder story in their honor.
She a very young widow from a war in Iraq. He a wounded Marine, losing an arm in another part of a foreign country. They lived and grew up in the same town. He is 2 years older than her. She married her high school sweetheart and then watched him leave for Iraq never to return. Saddened by his death, thinking she would never love again.
These two come together, help each other heal and have a beautiful story to tell. There is a surprise "helper" that I really enjoyed. I believe and I am glad that Barbara does as well.
Great story. Highly recommend. You can't miss with this one.
This is a wonderful tale that brings to light the sacrifices of our military men and women and their families as well as the impact combat duty has on everyone's lives.
Barbara Weitz writes in a clear, concise manner. Her characters are well-developed and believable. This is a great read for the holiday season.
Madeleine, a war widow, has her own emotional baggage. She loved her husband deeply. How can she let go of his memory without feeling disloyal?
Maybe what Jess and Madeleine both need is an angel to guide them.
I highly recommend Operation Christmas, a poignant love story sure to warm your heart.
