This book has a decent pace, witty dialogue and a lot of humor. The only shadow (because I can't call it a black mark) is the accent of one of the Peruvian characters. She tends to slip back and forth saying things like 'thees' - as a native speaker would, to saying 'this' as an American would.
I picked this up for my daughter and found myself totally engrossed.
Well done, Ms. Bond! Looking forward to more in this series.
This mystery is a really fun book. It reminds me of the Bobbsey Twins series. The pacing is just right and the characters are likeable. There's some great humor and enough peril to make it exciting for kids without being too scary. I love how the author based the mystery on real facts - there are some notes at the end of the book which I appreciate. When I finish a work of fiction I always like to know which bits are true!
I like to preview books before I give them to my kids, and I can't wait for them to read this! This book would be great for early readers, ones who are just getting into chapter books like the Magic Treehouse series or the Secrets of Droon, but even advanced readers will find it entertaining.
It is suspenseful without being too scary. Whenever it was time to stop reading and go to bed, they would both yell, "that is a terrible place to stop!"
It is also funny and informative - lots of good facts about Peru. The characters are really wonderful and their personalities play off each other really well, creating some hilarious scenes.
Book 2, please!
I am really looking forward to Volume 2 to see what the Cousins are up to next!
