The Kindle Edition is imperfect; the punctuation seems to have been sprinkled on top with little regard to actual grammatical rules, but the story shines through and it is a story worth reading. Shawn may not be a typical developer (he is far too talented and smart to be a typical anything) but his experiences ring true and have lessons for all of us.
I highly recommend this book and his courses on Pluralsight.
This being my own twenty-fifth year as a salaried computer programmer I totally agree with the section on burnout. Take a break once in a while. My own tip is other challenging hobbies/ interests. Many of us are drawn in to the 70+ hours weeks to save projects; taking a month or two off before the next one really recharges batteries.
During one of those rests read this book and even write your own!
The personal and professional sides of a software developer surely make it niche, but there is always something to learn, to correct, to make note of interesting bits, and to see how someone like me (perhaps a senior) treads the path. Shawn has done a good job. There is a personal narrative, an overview of the trade, some solid advice and warnings. I think every developer will benefitted by this book. And for aspiring ones, I seriously think, this is a must-read.
I find Shawn's personal story a mature and experienced point of view on these topics, told in a light and entertaining manner.

Now, some months later I have returned. Some of the advice resurfaced as I was tackling an issue. This book is a gem filled with hard learned knowledge that is applicable way beyond software development. This book is about how people tick, well how they tick in my technical world anyway.
You cannot teach experience, but you can offer insght, advice and wisdom. That is what this book does.
Totally loved this 35 page book. This book has Awesome little pieces of experience that Shawn tries to deliver in a very narrative way. I feel every student or a newbie developer should read this book.
