Overall im very happy with this lens. the price is great and its does a great job at what its used for. i would highly recommend this for someone looking to buy an innexpensive telephoto lens. Even if your new or an experienced photgrapher, its a great buy for the price and easy to get use to. ill post some pics i took using it at 500mm. But if your questioning the price and wondering if its worth it..dont. Definately worth more than the price.
In the field test study the clarity is great, the edges are a little soft, but nothing a little editing, and I mean very little editing I did to sharpen the subject. I also went into my camera and tweeked the sharpness before using this sweet little find. You have to be familiar with your camera settings to get the best clarity for this type of lens.
Everything is manual focus here, you just have to find your sweet spot in this lens which is not hard to find. Overall rating I really should give it a 5.
That being said, it is strictly a manual lens, fixed @ 500 mm with an f/8 aperture. It does take a little patience to get it dialed in, but once there, it produced some fine photos. I use it primarily for Astrophotography, and I have produced some amazing detailed Moon shots with it, and using the X2 magnifier, really brings it in close.
But for shooting in broad daylight, for example, I was shooting into a Mountain Ridge about a half mile away from my point of view, and found the perimeter of the frame would be just out of focus while the center subject was crisp and clear, and this was magnified with the X2 1000 mm attached as well. And this is the only reason it doesn't get 5 Stars. Keep in mind, this is only a $109.dollar lens, and performs as one, you can easily spend thousands on a full featured, auto focus, piece of glass, but for my purposes, this works just fine!
It mounts easily to the tri-pod, and you do need one, there is no possible way you can hold this thing still enough by hand, without one!
It comes with front and rear lens caps, as does the X2 magnifier. I would recommend this lens to any beginner/pro on a budget and worth the money!
The pictures I get are awesome! Im not a pro and just wanted a lens to play with, so for a
starter lens I was really happy. I also bought the extended ring that goes between the camera and
the lens which I didn't know came with the lens when I purchased it. So I have a second collar.
Other than that the choice for me was a good one. But unfortunely this purchase only makes me want
a bigger one now for more distance. LOL.
