Originally I bought this battery because for the price it offers the highest current capacity rating (2000mAh) - this equates to longer camera use between charging. I have no problem using my Canon OEM charger with the higher capacity Opteka battery.
Remember to pay attention to the mAh rating when comparing other batteries. The original Canon OEM battery has a rating of 1800mAh.
Beware - several sellers are offering lower ratings of 1200mAh - underpowered.
Thank you Opteka for still offering this battery at a very good price.
The day after I paid for them, I received a confirmation that they would be here in 2 days time.
The next day I get an email saying one would be here in 3 days and one in 6.
my shoot wad on a Saturday, which happened to be the day one of them arrived, the next arrived the following Monday.
I contacted amazon about the issue, they immediately tried to place the blame on me having selected standard shipping.
To which I pointed out that if I had done this the "guaranteed delivery by" message would not have appeared.
In the end they realized their mistake and could not rectify the issue, so they extended my prime membership.
A membership that apparently gets your stuff delivered to you in standard shipping speed.
the product itself is great.
No problems with using both batteries I purchased with my canon t3i and original charger.
battery life on first use was well over 3 hours.
very nice quality.
I only mentioned my bad experience so that consumers know what to expect from the buyer
I have seen the battery meter fall below 1/2 charge one time in 6 months. That was after a ton of use where I had PLENTY of time to charge them. I use a $40 battery grip on my Canon T2i / 550D.
This is at least my third order of batteries from Opteka. I bought extra so I would never have to worry about running out of juice. Not one bad battery so far. If I ever have a complaint, this review will be the first to change. At $17 a battery, there's not much to complain about, though.
Both of my canon batteries are used for back-up. That basically means that they've never been used except for the week I first get a camera. I am in no way saying the canon batteries are bad - they are great.
The Optekas seems to run out of juice quickly once the battery gets low. That's when you grab another one (or two for gripped), and keep shooting. To be honest, I haven't really compared that to canon batteries for reasons listed above. Canon batteries may not exhibit the same behavior because of additional hardware.
5/5 for a good product at an outstanding price. I'm pleased with the Optekas.
So when they arrived, I popped them out of the box, removed the covers, and matched them up to the OEM battery. Indistinguishable in size and shape. I immediately popped one in the charger and it lit up just fine. After it was charged up, I fitted it into the camera without issue. They are both doing just great so far...
It fits the camera and the charger just great (no difference from the original one).
As to battery life compared to the original I cannot say yet, as the camera and rig are new. I cannot address battery life thus far. I'll give them some time. They are the backups to the OEM anyway when I take off on shoots.
