Product Description
This HDMI audio extractor adapter will help you to extract the audio signal from the HDMI source device and output it through a 3.5mm jack or SPDIF Optical Toslink audio port, you can output the video signal through HDMI output to your TV simultaneously. It's the simplest solution for your TV, monitor, and various HDMI source devices that do not have a dedicated audio output!
Three Audio EDID Settings
- 2CH Mode: Set 2CH to get analog stereo. This converter extracts the audio signal from the HDMI source device and outputs 2-channel analog stereo audio through the 3.5mm jack or L/R port (you can use 3.5mm to L/R cable) -- Support LPCM and PCM audio format.
- 5.1CH Mode: Set 5.1CH to get 5.1 digital surrounds. This converter extracts the audio signal from the HDMI source device and outputs 5.1 channel audio through the SPDIF Optical port -- Support DTS, Dolby-AC3, LPCM, and PCM audio format.
- PASS Mode: For 5.1/7.1CH PCM, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and above, set EDID to PASS and connect HDMI output to your receiver directly.
Please try the following three methods if you experience no sound from the output:
- Switch EDID Button Switch the EDID audio switch in the front. Change it between 2CH, 5CH, or pass.
- Turn Off Dolby Digital Plus Because TOSLINK (SPDIF) does not support Dolby Digital Plus, you need to turn off the Dolby Digital Plus function of the input devices. Then the sound can go through the extractor. a: Amazon Fire TV or Amazon Fire TV Stick Settings - Display Sound - Audio - Dolby Digital Output - Dolby Digital Plus off b: Apple TV Settings – Audio Video - Dolby Digital - on c: Chromecast Chromecast plays the contents from your video source, please make sure to turn off the Dolby Digital Plus on the video source through the play devices.
- If you use the HDMI to DVI or HDMI to VGA cable for the video, you may experience no audio out. In this case, please use HDMI to HDMI cable for the video.
Note:
- The 3.5mm AUX output will not have sound if incoming is multi-channel (>2CH) audio.
- If no video, please power up the TV, power up this extractor, then reset the HDMI source unit.
Q&A:
- Q: Can I extract the audio and output to audio receiver independently (without HDMI output)?
- A: Yes!

Previously I was running everything through my PlayStation 4, but that meant I couldn't use the sound bar with other devices or just for watching regular TV.
This little converter saved the day. The idea is that you get an HDMI hub/switcher box and plug all your devices into that. That box outputs HDMI. You plug that HDMI into this splitter and out comes HDMI video and optical audio. The HDMI video goes to the TV and the optical audio to your stereo or Soundbar device.
Yes it sounds complicated and you will need lots of cables ane devices. It is not ideal but that is the intended purpose of this device and it does it well
I will buy a TV with audio output next time.
Case is aluminum. It looks good and is obviously very sturdy.
I highly recommend this for older analogue stereos.
I contacted the tech-support email and after a back-and-forth of one or two emails they sent me a replacement pronto. Can't ask for more than that, but I hope it lasts longer than the old one.
