From the manufacturer
OPTIMA BlueTop Battery
Ultimate Power, for the ultimate professionals, for the ultimate enthusiasts. And for the ultimate experience. That's our goal each and every day. No matter how extreme the conditions, OPTIMA delivers Ultimate Power. We look for every technological advantage to push the limits of what's possible and leave pretenders in our dust.
We manufacture our own batteries in our own facilities to our demanding standards. To ensure quality and consistency in our batteries, no matter where they are being sold - our batteries are never re-labled or re-spec'd.
Going Farther for Longer
Installing an OPTIMA BlueTop high-performance AGM battery in your boat or RV means exceptional running time and more recharges than you’d get out of a traditional battery. It’s the perfect marine battery for boats with trolling motors, extensive electronic systems, and works well as an RV battery for RVs with creature comforts that tend to drain batteries quickly. On top of providing outstanding vibration resistance, the BlueTop efficient power delivery and faster recharge time mean you’ll spend less time worrying about your battery. This means more time for fun. Again and again. This flexible boat battery and RV battery is ideal for those who need a sure-starting, strong-cranking, maintenance-free power source.
- Up to three times more recharges than other marine batteries
- More than 15 times the vibration resistance
- Spillproof, mountable in virtually any position
- Works well as a boat battery or RV battery
At the heart of every OPTIMA battery is a series of individual spiral-wound cells comprised of two pure (99.99%) lead plates coated in a precise coating of lead oxide. One coated plate is positive and the other is negative.
The unique manufacturing process of spiral winding continuous lead plates is far more precision-controlled and expensive than building traditional flat plate AGM batteries. Custom automated cell-winding machines are required to maintain the close tolerances required to maintain quality and performance. Critical tolerances, temperatures, humidity and automated processes are maintained and constantly monitored.
OPTIMA has built over 100 million individual spiral cells since the early 1990’s. No one knows how to build the highest quality and best performing spiral-wound batteries better than OPTIMA.
What's the difference between OPTIMA RedTop, YellowTop, and BlueTop Batteries?
For normal engine starting where an alternator immediately monitors the state of charge and provides energy to the battery whenever it is needed.
This would describe most stock vehicles, including: automotive and RV underhood starting, heavy equipment where starting is the primary function, and diesel vehicles without aftermarket electronics.
Use this when electrical loads are higher than average, or when the discharge cycle is more than typical engine starting, such as vehicles with multiple electronic accessories and vehicles without alternators. This can also include vehicles with a lot of factory electronics such as power sliding doors and a DVD player. Examples also include: racing vehicles without a charging system, dedicated drag racers, diesel powered vehicles with aftermarket electronics, and vehicles with inverters, winches, or other accessories.
The BlueTop starting battery (dark gray case) is to be used when a dedicated starting battery is required and it should never be used for cycling duty. Use a BlueTop starting battery for marine applications and RVs when the battery's only function is engine starting.
The dual purpose BlueTop (light gray case) can be used for both starting and deep cycling -- it is a true deep cycle battery with extremely high cranking power. Uses include: trolling motors, marine applications with heavy electrical accessories, and RVs.

Upadate 4/20/16 Used this 8 hours on a 52 lb minn kota, It was windy and I used it hard hard figured it would go down before I left the lake, I was afraid it would not start my 25 hp motor, At end of day my trolling motor has a gage to check battery reserve and it said 3/4 full is that impossible so I had another battery checker and it checked 3/4 full can that be true, can that light of a battery hold that kind of reserve, If this is true and I guess it is,this is the only battery I will ever have. Finally something that gets me thought the day and I can carry from the boat that does not weigh a ton, I will update if things change.
Update 5/3/16. Ok had it out 11 hours used hard hard, showed 12.2 volts, check with meter showed 1/2 charge left, unbelievable only battery I will own know matter the cost. Will update after a year
5/1/17 Ok bought a bigger boat with a older foot controlled trolling motor, the battery. We fished and used it from 9:00 am until 8:00 a 11 hour day of pretty much nonstop. After about 11 hours battery died. I still am very happy, if I had to do it over I would of bought the D31M check it out. It has 75 ah. That would have enough to run the day. Just a thought. It not that much more to buy the 31. My friend has a 31 and has had it for years maybe 6 or 7. Still works perfect.
P.S: I have an Optima Red Top battery that I purchased around 2003 that started service in my 5th wheel trailer and migrated to my Massey-Ferguson TO-35 tractor (converted to 12-volts) that is still working perfectly. You can't beat the ruggedness and durability of these batteries. I recommend them for any application/environment.
No question, Optima is not messing around. They make incredible batteries that absolutely live up to the claims made on their website. They even provide instructions on how to restore a "dead" battery after years of use and extreme discharge. That says a lot.
Bottom line: you get what you pay for!
Damaged box, 2 of 6 damaged cells, cracked lower base and split upper casing. The battery was damage free however the dust on top was unacceptable. Both batteries had a shelf life for the past 6 months to 1 year " based on the manufacturing date showed on the battery ". Don't recommend to purchase batteries online.
