It's important to know that most modern BIOS's do not emit a POST code to the standard I/O address. That change happened around the time PCIe was replacing PCI, so there are motherboards out there with PCI slots that will not show anything useful on this card. It worked for me on a Socket 939 board, but not on an AM2 board.

That said on somewhat older systems (and legacy systems), these cards are a very handy tool. The on-board squeaker is handy if you are testing outside of a case. The instructions are useless, so if you don't know how to use these do a search on YouTube. There are plenty of videos explaining how they work.

My experience was similar to another one star reviewer. Product nearly caught on fire.

I've had a number of these POST plugin board tools. My last one went missing so I needed another one.

Very poor build quality. See photo 2.

I should have been suspicious when I inspected the board and immediately noticed the oxidized components(button switch) See attached photo. I mean, if the maker is storing their parts in a non climate controlled area like the jungles of Malaysia or Vietnam, I'd expect exactly this kind of oxidation.

There isn't a whole lot to these boards. You plug them in and since they are keyed, its fool proof, then you apply power and you get a 4 digit code on the display. I've used this kind of product thousands of times.

However, in this case, I plugged it in and "poof" smoke started to appear behind one of the chips and then sparks. The led only showed the center segment.

BACK IN THE BOX AND BACK TO AMAZON!!!!

Instructions are almost gibberish

The instructions that came with this device are not understandable for the most part. For example: "The card is named POST (Power On Self Test ) card too. It could display the error code by the result of POST. then you would soon delermine the error in the error code table. Especially when the PC can' t boot operating system, or blank screen. or the card and motherboard couldn' t issue an audible beep. It is a powerful diagnostic tool." The spelling and punctuation is exactly as shown in the manual. For $9.99 I suppose I shouldn't expect more.

I'm going to hunt for a better card. One that also supports PCIe.

I used this to diagnose and bench test motherboards prior to installation. The item works as it is supposed to. I did have to search for the bios codes from the internet but that is no big problem.

If you still have older motherboards that have PCI slots. If yours still have ISA slots, then you probably need to upgrade to newer motherboards.

This would probably be a good product if someone who really understood how it works were to write a user manual for it in English. I have been dealing with fractured English manuals for over 50 years, but this "pamphlet" is about the worst translation from Chinese that I have ever seen. When I used the device, I was able to tell that the motherboard was not working--already knew that, but it was my hope this thing would tell me what the problem was. I should have thrown it out with the motherboard.
