I am an electrical engineer and needed a simple tester. The unit came with inadequate instructions so I proceeded to dissemble it to learn how it works. The floppy, Molex, and SATA connectors are routed to the three LEDs. The LEDs begin to light at about 1.8 V which is typical. If an LED lights, it only means there is at least +1.8 V present with respect to the ground pin. Do not rely on the LED as an accurate voltage measurement.

When connection is made to the 20/24 pin connector, two beeps will be heard and the LCD display will become active showing various voltages and (I think) the time it took the power supply to become active in ms. If no connection is made to the 4P, 6P, or 8P connectors, then the +12V2 display will flash "L.L" and the unit will beep about once a second. When connection is made to the 4P/6P/8P connector, the +12V2 voltage will be displayed and the beeping will cease.

Measured verses indicated voltages: “-12V” -11.45/11.8, “+12V2” +12.28/12.3, “5VSB” +4.86/5.1, “PG” ?/300, “+5V” +5.04/5.0, “+12V1” +12.28/12.3, “+3.3V” +3.33/3.3.

It is a useful tester. Would have been better if circuitry were included to insure LEDs only lighted at predetermined voltages.

I'm a stickler for build quality, and for less than $20, I don't feel ripped off at all. It's made with a one-piece aluminum body, and it doesn't give you that bottom-dollar cheap Chinese feel you get with a lot of cheap electronics like this. I've been in IT for 19 years now, and it's actually something that if I saw in person, I would still buy. In action, it works as expected. I plugged and unplugged in various connectors while it was on, and it had no problem accomodating/adapting to the inputs changing status (connected/not connected). Easy to read backlit display. Connector sockets aren't cheap and wobbly feeling. Actually a good part. It's got sockets for all the connectors I could think of. Would definitely recommend.

Yet another decent tool for a technology troubleshooting situation, this power supply tester offers a fast and somewhat comprehensive method of verifying proper voltages in some of those "mystery problem" situations when hard failure is not occurring. Now, when I train someone to troubleshoot a computer, I can give specific instructions on both connection and what to look for. This is much easier than using a multimeter to check voltages independently, and can be a real time saver. What I like best about it is the ability to see all voltages simultaneously; a big advantage over doing it one by one with the meter. I don't believe this thing is quite as all-inclusive as it is being advertised; What is missing in this setup is a little wiring harness that would allow you to connect this device in line with the mains so that you could observe the voltage readings under full load of the system. There are some decent Youtube videos that can save you some time on figuring out how it is supposed to work, so I recommend watching those instead of trying to figure out the included nonsense. The real downer here is there are no instructions; the back of the package has some scribbles on it but there isn't even a diagram of the display showing what you should expect to see. I am sure it is not so easy to get decent translations, but the directions are real "Du-Du". With proper instructions and full functionality this would be a 5 star item.

This tester does exactly what it is supposed to do. The information is easy to read and understand - it shows both the expected reading and the actual reading. All computers in our house have always been built from components and many parts are re-used as old computers get upgraded. I tested this power supply tester with two old power supplies, one of them was known to be bad (the computer no longer starts with it installed). The tester showed a reading of 11.1V (when a reading of 12V was expected) on one of the rails confirming that this supply was no longer good. The tolerances should be +- 5% of the expected voltage. The reading on my other power supply matched the specs and was good.

The tester supports different standards (old and new) - 4 pin, 8 pin, 6 pin, 20/24 pin. In addition to testing the mother board, it allows has connections to test power for disk drives: the old style Molex connectors (for IDE drives) as well as SATA connectors.

Voltage tests: +12V,-12V,+5V,-5V,+3.3V,5VStandby(SB) 12V power Good (PG)
The tollerances should be +- 5% of the expected voltage, i.e.
3.3V should be 3.135V to 3.465
5V should be 4.75V to 5.25V
12V should be 11.4V to 12.6V

Voltage source: 20/24pin (ATX-connector)
Connectors: Floppy, HDD, CDROM, SATA, 4 pin (P4),8 pin (Dual-CPU),6 pin (PCI-Express)

When a computer does not start the problem could be either the mother board or the power supply. This tester makes it easy to tell what is at fault. It is easier to use the a regular Volt meter because with a Volt meter you need to short the pins for the on/off switch where as this tester does it for you.
