From the Author
As you read through Optimize Your Heart, you will see a book that is laid out in three separate parts, each designed to guide you through your journey to better heart health.
Part One: Cardiac Prehabilitation - Five chapters that are designed to help identify your risk factors, understand why your medical care provider is an important ally, techniques for building healthy habits, and advice for growing your support network.
Part Two: Your Wellness Comes First - If you made just one improvement to your heart health, then focusing on your wellness is a good place to start. You'll learn the foundation of heart-healthy nutrition, why sleep is so important, techniques for reducing stress, and ideas for kicking the bad habits that are sabotaging your cardiovascular system.
Part Three: Exercise Your Cardiac Muscle - Your heart is a muscle that needs exercise. Just about any kind of exercise can be beneficial, but in these chapters, you will be guided to the best physical activity for you, how to set up a training plan you look forward to consistently following, and workout tips that I wish someone had shared with me when I first started.
You are unique. So is your heart. And so, too, is your blueprint for improving your heart health. Optimize Your Heart is not a replacement for the advice you receive from your doctor, it's a starting point.
Whether you're 34, 44, 54, or 64 years of age, Optimize Your Heart is a practical guide to help you reduce your cardiovascular disease risks, eliminate unhealthy habits, improve your nutrition, become more physically active, and optimize your heart health before a stroke or heart attack can strike.

Masterfully organized in a way that allows the reader to flit from place to place. It allows people to create their own heart health journey as they see fit (pun intended) and Beal gives endless tips and advice on how to do just that, get fit and stay in good (heart) health.
It's all in the title: an extremely practical guide. Anyone looking for a book that won't shame you into heart health, but instead helps you in really simple ways towards your goal will whole heartedly (pun!) enjoy this book.
Having suffered a massive heart attack at the age of 44, Beal knows all too well the challenges facing anyone in the aftermath of cardiac arrest. Amazingly, against incredible odds, the "Cardiac Prehab Personal Trainer" walked out of the hospital after just two days of care. While doctors considered his recovery ‘remarkable,’ Beal cites his recently-adopted heart-health focus as the true difference-maker.
Divided into three sections covering everything from identifying risk factors to exercise suggestions, ‘Optimize Your Heart’ not only helps readers understand how to measure their heart health, it also offers a series of easily-implemented lifestyle changes that can make a world of difference.
There’s a lot here, but the book's logical layout makes for easy future reference. Additionally, Beal leans heavily on his own journey, weaving poignant personal anecdotes throughout, a move that pays dividends in regards to readability. I particularly enjoyed the conversational tone of Beal’s writing—the author impressively manages to convey a massive amount of information in less than 200 pages, distilling a potentially overwhelming topic into a painless two-hour read.
Andy Beal’s ‘Optimize Your Heart: A practical guide to lowering your risk of a heart attack or stroke’ is highly recommended for anyone, regardless of age or gender, interested in learning more about maintaining a healthy heart.
The book is a well-organized and factual guide, citing multiple studies and medical tips. Beal draws on his own medical experiences without being overdramatic or condescending. I would recommend this practical ebook for anyone interested in improving their heart health.
I personally wanted to read this book because I was diagnosed with having several brain infarcts after having brain MRIs due to a cancer diagnosis. Brain infarcts are associated with mini-strokes. Luckily, and by the grace of God, I didn't suffer any lasting side effects. But now that I'm getting healthier, I can appreciate a book like this that helps me to set personal goals for strength training, endurance, and maintaining a healthy heart -- while also trying to remove stress from my life. This book has helped me understand those concepts more and I feel it's a great addition to anyone's basic heart health goals -- especially those with higher stroke or heart disease risks.
